I have seen this same question on previous versions. Was wondering how to make persistent a live USB created with Unetbootin. I tried even with Topaz but never got anywhere. Hassle for me to use live usb with elive2.1.40 because I have to reinstall the b43 wifi driver each time, so persistence would be nice.

Otherwise great distro

Hi guys, I am still pretty new to Elive and am not sure how
to get a theme I am looking for. It was posted in the Elive
forum a couple of years ago labeled as Siglo XIX. I can't
find where to get it. I also found one in the E17 theme
site called A-New-1890 which looks very similar. I
downloaded that one and tried to import the .edj file, it
gives an error asking if it is a valid theme. I checked the
about button and it tells me I have version 0.16.999.063
of Enlightement. When I look in Synaptic, the themes for
E17 are listed as being installed. So, do I have E17? Where
can I find the information on making a theme from the E17
site work? Is there somewhere I can upload a theme I have
modified for other Elive users?

After getting frustrated using Windows I decided to try out
a live boot DVD of *buntu. It was a version with Gnome 2
so different enough from Windows that I thought it was
worth a try. I was happy with it until Unity came along. I
don't like the way it works, so I decided to shop around. I
came across Elive Topaz and thought it looked good, so I
decided to give it a try. Of the 3 laptops and a desktop
running 5 distros of Linux the one running Elive is by far
my favorite for look and feel. I have been using it for the
shortest time so are still not used to it and don't have all
the software I want installed yet, but I am getting there.
I am using the Lucax3 theme and I think it looks amazing.
Thanks for all your hard work on this beautiful distro.

Non-US keyboard? (no replies)

I live in Sweden and use a Swedish keyboard. How do I get Elive to understand this? This is vital to my being able to use Elive at all.

All "special" characters (e.g. !"#¤%&/=?+`´-_*^¨~ etc.) are under different keys on a Swedish keyboard than they are under the default US keymap. This made the installation process unnecessarily difficult (try to pay with PayPal when you can't provide your email address [since you can't find the @ sign key] and can't provide your password [since you can't find the "special" characters you need]).

If I may make a suggestion, I would suggest that the installer would allow the user to choose keyboard layout as the very first step of the installation process, the way the Debian installer does. Not everybody lives in the US.

I have tried everything I can think of. There is no application to change the keymap that I can find. I assume that the keymap Elive uses can be changed by a simple command in the terminal, but I don't know the correct command and none of my guesses have produced anything.

Thank you.

I live in Sweden and use a Swedish keyboard. How do I get Elive to understand this? (Just to be clear: I only want to change the keyboard layout to Swedish -- I prefer English for the system and applications).

I have been at this now all day, and I have tried everything I can think of. There is no application to change the keymap that I can find. Using Synaptic I downloaded and "installed" one called Keymapper. Althought Synaptic claimed that it was installed, Keymapper does not appear in any menu, and is not recognized in the terminal.

All "special" characters (e.g. !"#¤%&/=?+`´-_*^¨~ etc.) are under different keys on a Swedish keyboard than they are under the default US keymap.
So I downloaded Elive 2.1.37 (Unstable) yesterday and for once, a distro actually loaded up and worked awesomely.

But I went to install it and couldn't. Going through the forums here, it seems to me that I have to pay for an installer?

I wished I was able to, but I'm not in a position to do so. I am a disabled American Veteran and I live on very tight funds and if our Government keeps going the way they are, they will be cutting even more monies off of us.

Anyways, great OS you have. Guess i will just enjoy it in Live mode. Thank you.

I purchased Topaz some time ago, but I wonder if I can install 2.1.25. I know there is an installer app included, but it is set to recognize the live session as an installed session.

I just imploded by Bodhi install by trying to get the AMD graphics driver working, so I'd rather have this version of elive. Topaz does not work with my APU system. u_too hates it, too. 2.1.25 works really well.

One primary advantage Elive has over Bodhi is the more robust set of applications. While I can appreciate Bodhi's approach, in real life it can be a time-consuming and frustrating experience downloading the high-end apps I enjoy. My system is at best a mid-grade machine, but I want its resources devoted to the apps rather than the window manager.
Although I am using another OS at the moment, as soon as the installer appears in Elive I will be using it.

with new live-cd version 2.1 I can't establish internet-connection with 3G-Modem with my portuguese provider kanguru.pt, let it be with costumed APN (myconnection), let it be alterated (kanguru-portatil), let it be blank, what works at the moment at opensuse12.2
By the way, this zenith-installer does not give a lot of choices, what about including networkmanager-applet, what seems to be most effective in the moment?
Tried it with wvdial, but I don't remember well how to do this: angry
Anyway, nice to see Agust here also, after charming experiences with his themes in bodhi and lately in opensuse!

2.1.23 Initial Remarks (no replies)

2.1.23 Alpha is looking great. I had some sound-related issues that were cleared up by the audio configurator, the only remaining one was getting my USB videocam's microphone to function during the test call on Skype. If I would have spent more time I think I could have resolved it.

Kdenlive was installed via Synaptic as I ran Elive from a USB key (just to see) and worked with my connected video camera. KDE apps look like crap at the moment, but I was thrilled to see updated applications throughout the system.

I really wanted to like Bodhi on my AMD APU system, but I think I like this better, even at alpha:

*only three repos instead of a dozen or more on Bodhi, just to get the software I want.
*Related to the above, the system is useful out-of-the-box, rather than all the work required to get Bodhi up to speed.
*I can select text size from the initial help screens, nice!
*Very fast and pretty. A lot of the little touches make this a very credible alternative to Windows and Mac.

Thanks to you devels for the hard work. Wow.

(SOLVED!) Segmentation Faults after ELive 2.0 Install (3 replies)

Just installed Elive 2.0. Experienced four seg faults in Enlightenment in the first 2 hours: twice when clicking on the virtual desktop panel to switch desktops, once when working with terminal configurator and once just after running apt-get in a terminal to remove software I just installed. A restart of Enlightenment after a seg fault resulted in flaky operation (e.g. every time I cancelled an Administrator action, I'd get a message that the administrator program unexpectedly stopped working. So I ended up rebooting after each seg fault.

Also, networking, which configured fine during install, disappeared on me after one of my reboots. The eth0 device was no longer reported by ifconfig, only the loopback device.

From what I could tell, the install, configuration, and fine tuning of Elive went off without any problems.

I'm trying to run Elive on a 4yr old iMac with Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce graphics 8800GS and a Marvell Yukon Gigabit adapter. The Nvidia and Marvell devices configured fine during install and worked great right out of the box.

I'm guess another reinstall is in order.

Hi all!

I just installed a different type of anti-spam system, we need just to use an optimal plugin anti-spam in order to avoid it, I just have not much time to look on it :)

The new plugin is installed, instead of a captcha it requires to solve a puzzle, please tell me if you see anything wrong it, like "its painful to solve the puzzle everytime a post is made" or other problems.

There's also another plugin installed which blocks in a better way the spammer users (we can't use fire right now), by not allowing them to login, to post, and specially: to remove all their posts (a feature VERY lacking on this forum), which deletes all their spam in one shot :P

I found these plugins from that list, maybe you found another interesting one ? :D (i dont have much time to look at them ;) [www.phorum.org]

Some of you are "moderators", this means that you can delete spammed posts and similar things, if you are not, just click in the "report" for that we can do it :X

If you feel motivated, you can browse a bit the forum in order to delete old spammed posts :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie:
