Non-US keyboard? (no replies)

I live in Sweden and use a Swedish keyboard. How do I get Elive to understand this? This is vital to my being able to use Elive at all.

All "special" characters (e.g. !"#¤%&/=?+`´-_*^¨~ etc.) are under different keys on a Swedish keyboard than they are under the default US keymap. This made the installation process unnecessarily difficult (try to pay with PayPal when you can't provide your email address [since you can't find the @ sign key] and can't provide your password [since you can't find the "special" characters you need]).

If I may make a suggestion, I would suggest that the installer would allow the user to choose keyboard layout as the very first step of the installation process, the way the Debian installer does. Not everybody lives in the US.

I have tried everything I can think of. There is no application to change the keymap that I can find. I assume that the keymap Elive uses can be changed by a simple command in the terminal, but I don't know the correct command and none of my guesses have produced anything.

I have a Panasonic video camera which downloads video from tape to the PC via a PCI 1394 card.

Attempting to download video with Kino I get an error saying dev/raw1394 not read/writable. In fact dev/raw1394 doesn't exist although there are 1394 libraries in user/share. How do I get it going?

Elive doesn't recognize my wifi or network . I have tried both the wired network and wireless network to no avail. I hope this can be fixed as I expected this os to detect my network adapters after paying for the module to install the os. :-(

Ok, in topic "Installer-module Features: Trial Install" I commented my sound problem initially.
My computer have sound problem with the newer kernel.
The sound problem is that with GStreamer is "accelerated" and with Xine is faltered.
This happens with all distros with a kernel greater than 2.6.26.

And now, I finally found a fix for this!

Running a multi-boot desktop with the following sound hardware:
Multimedia audio controller:
Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: IBM Netvista A40/A40p
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
I/O ports at f000
I/O ports at f400
Kernel driver in use: Intel ICH
Kernel modules: snd-intel8x0

Booting F9 (kernel-2.6.27.5-41.fc9.i686) shows these (good) messages in
dmesg, and then sound plays back at a correct-sounding speed and pitch:
intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 50775 usecs
intel8x0: clocking to 41134

Booting newly-installed F10 (kernel-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686) shows these
(bad) messages in dmesg, and then sound plays back too fast and too tinny:
intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 50917 usecs
intel8x0: measured clock 78 rejected
intel8x0: clocking to 48000

The problem has been circumvented in F10 by adding the following statement to
/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.dist:
options snd-intel8x0 ac97_clock=41194
(Using 41194 instead of 41134, as per various recommendations in internet.)

I just want to share this, and if it's possible, help to fix it!

What is some good hardware for recording music on a laptop? (no replies)

I know programs(software) that can record music but the issue is hardware or soundcards. I can't buy any internal soundcards because they won't fit or go into the laptop so I need external soundcards or hardware instead.

So with that said, does anyone know of any EXTERNAL soundcards or hardware that can give me some good quality sound? I want to be able to record music from my keyboard and record some guitar riffs as well with my acoustic/electric guitar.

Cannot get 3d graphics with gtx 470 sli (no replies)

I have dual gtx 470 sli. Upon attempting to install I get the error with compiz-check "Detected two graphic chips..." and the program stops. I have removed the sli bridge and get the same error. Also the nvidia 185.XX driver that is recommended by Elive does not activate. There is no 3d effects. I need help. I installed this and donated because I thought it would be the best fit for my wife to use my computer when at work. Don't trust MS and IE!

I don't know what the next step to get the video card(s) working within Elive are. Can anyone help with this issue?

Hello,

i have a big problem:
My speaker no sound.I have Realket alc 880 chip and HDA sis966 card.

I have the mixer whit all the value at top.The System read my card audio but all the program havent audio and if i try to open a audio file whit audio player(clementine bashee etc) it dont start.Maybe is a driver problem....i dont know...

Please help me!!! I hope that there is a solution....Elive is fantastic but without audio i cant use it ....

Turn off does not work.

My laptop screen goes off but hangs on and stays on all the time forcing me to press the power button of the laptop.

The next "Standby" works without problems.

Hi!... First of all, I really like Elive...this distribution helped me in the past, when I had a slow machine...and I still like it..

Now, the problem. Yesterday, I installed the last stable version (Elive Topaz 2.0) from a bootable USB key created with the utility included in the LiveCD... But I can't have wireless connection...

I have a Wifi Router...It is working well... I think the problem is the driver for my network adapter...

I'm a little newbie in Linux... I studied about it, but i never used it frequently...

This is what I tried:
- I downloaded the firmware and extracted the content into various folders, cause I don't know the correct one:
- /lib/firmware
- /usr/lib/firmware

- I've tried booting Elive in the mode for repairing, and choosing the option that searches in my Windows folder for the Wifi driver...
- I've configured the archive /etc/network/interfaces with my network properties...
- I've tried installing the Windows driver from the console...

I don't know what to do... And I don't want to use another Linux distribution...

Any help??

Live HP Mini 210 video problem (2 replies)

Hi everyone. I've got an HP mini 210-1018CL and I'm trying to load Elive 2.0 from a usb drive. It starts out ok, I can select the language and ntfs compatibility settings fine, but when I get to the point where the graphical interface is supposed to start, it gives me a menu with options to reconfigure xorg, install, or reboot. When I exit that to a command line and type startx, it gives an error EE: Device not found. Lspci shows the video and display controllers, both of which are intel and have IDs of a011 and a012 in that order. HP's website doesn't have linux drivers for this model. I've tried booting to the option for graphical problems and also to special for Eee PCs since it's a netbook. I get the same issue no matter what. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I installed nassesary package.

I have Dell Inspiron 1720. Before I had Ubuntu. I just install Elive 2.0 and I have a problem to install my wifi card. It's Broadcom.
Please help me to install it.

Howdy All,

I recently purchased a netbook and it has the cursed GMA 500 graphics chip in it - currently the only distro I have been able to get the drivers to compile under have been Ubuntu based. I would really like to use Elive on it though! Has anyone been successful in compiling the GMA500 drivers under Elive? Using the system in an 800x600 resolution is horrid and I just can't bring myself to do it >.<

I did find this guide for compiling the driver under Debian, but after several hours of trying to debug the various errors it threw while compiling I eventually gave up :-/

Open to suggestions on how I can get this chip working in my 1024x600 resolution under Elive.

EDIT: Sorry for the double thread, I didn't realize that my first post from my phone had been successful.

Wireless keyboard not working (no replies)

Hi there. I have a wireless Logitech keyboard and it is working fine on Debian. I mean that by the time you are about to login you can type your name and password. In Elive however, this doesn't happen. I have to unplug the USB king of thing and replug it again and then I wait a bit and only after that I can use my keyboard and login.

The wireless mouse on the contrary works fine.

On Debian or Sabayon Linux however, everything is fine.

Any ideas?

Hi guys,

I guess many people have problem with Elive's frequency scaling applet. Well, I tried to do scale my frequency manually with :

$ cpufreq-set -g powersave

etc. but it doesn't work. So it is not a problem of the applet but of the linux kernel and the cpufreq-tools. Was anybody able to find a way to fix this?

My hardware is OK, because on 64bit Debian everything is fine.

Hi,

I had Elive GEM on my laptop and wlan worked but now with Elive Topaz, wlan scanning doesn't find my home network.

My wlan card is PCMCIA Orinoco Silver.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

I just downloaded the new version of elive and i love it. i bought 2 copies. i can't seem to find anyway to get my webcam working in either cheese or skype. in skype i get green fuzz, in cheese i get white fuzz. it is a logitech quickcam communicate stx usb webcam. the system sees it on bus 002 device 002 id 046d:08d7. it has worked in other linuxes. i have tried multiple suggestions online, but cannot get them to work.

any ideas?

hello, i'm not in the know about the status of the free ati drivers and can't find any recent info. I expected cards like mine to be working by now but it didn't with elive 2.0. Can anyone tell me where can i find any news about the drivers or a solution to make my card work?? I hear fedora 12 makes these cards work well, so why don't they in the newest elive? thanks

I once tried Elive and left it because i couldn't succed to connect the computer to internet. I'm trying again. When I scan to find network it doesn't find anything. I tried many things from french forum "Belive" whithout success.

I have an HP Compaq 6720s with the broadcom 4312 wireless that doesn't work from the CD
I used the debian page here and followed the guide and got a connection.

My problem now is that everytime I boot up my wireless isnt detected and I have to go to the command line and type:

$ modprobe wl
$ iwconfig

then my wifi can be selected and a connection made.

IS there some way to get my wireless to come on automatically at boot up?

Hi,
I am using Elive development version 1.9.51 on my laptop. It uses a Realtek rtl8192se wlan card, and I was able to obtain the Linux driver from realtek. I installed the driver via the installation instructions in the readme file in the driver, and it was successfully installed. However the wlan isn't configuring and I can't figure out how to get it working.

I checked the installation after installing the driver. I did the following in terminal:

lsmod | grep r8192se_pciproblems / incompatibility

and got a output that it is installed.

The driver installs itself and does its own depmod -a during installation, but I did the following again to make sure

depmod -a

I found the kernel module installed at /lib/modules/2.6.30-elive/kernel/net/wireless/r8192se_pci.ko

I did ifconfig -a and iwconfig wlan0

then rebooted the computer.

I again did lsmod | grep r8192se_pci and got the output that the module is loaded.

However, when I start the network configurator, there is a message that there is no wireless card.

I started the computer in nurse mode to detect the driver, but the r8192 driver isn't listed in the list so I am not able to select it.

I tried a couple of other things to try and get the driver to be recognized, but they didn't work so I am at the point to ask for some help to get this going.
