Hi all!

I just installed a different type of anti-spam system, we need just to use an optimal plugin anti-spam in order to avoid it, I just have not much time to look on it :)

The new plugin is installed, instead of a captcha it requires to solve a puzzle, please tell me if you see anything wrong it, like "its painful to solve the puzzle everytime a post is made" or other problems.

There's also another plugin installed which blocks in a better way the spammer users (we can't use fire right now), by not allowing them to login, to post, and specially: to remove all their posts (a feature VERY lacking on this forum), which deletes all their spam in one shot :P

I found these plugins from that list, maybe you found another interesting one ? :D (i dont have much time to look at them ;) [www.phorum.org]

Some of you are "moderators", this means that you can delete spammed posts and similar things, if you are not, just click in the "report" for that we can do it :X

If you feel motivated, you can browse a bit the forum in order to delete old spammed posts :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: :boogie:

Thanatermesis tells us in his blog: :P

Today, me and Anabell, the new organizer and marketing director of Elive, had a very good idea for Elive, as you know, Elive is an unique operating system in all the world because doesn't follow any rule stablished by the system, Elive has personality and the power to be free as how it wants to be, and now, we are going to include an incredible feature never seen before in any other operating system, but more than a feature is an amazing gift...

Unfortunately I can't say anything about what is this feature, because we want it to be a big big surprise!, we want to listen echo's of OMG in all around the world!, the only thing that I can say about it is that is not very much related with software or applications but is something like an unvaluable gift, even with a good bunch of thousands of money you can't have a better gift, I think that this part is a little fun because sometimes there's a strange user lost around there saying that 15 bucks is a lot of money (even if we have non-paying options), now we are offering something comparable to thousands of bucks!, but anyways... I don't worry about these ones, because as you know, Elive is made for whom appreciates it, nobody obliges you to use Elive, you are free, so remain free.

Intriguing......

It has seemed me interesting to put this forum .

I have recently noticed that the users with poor knowledge's of gnu/linux (in other words, that never has tried it), doesn't know How to boot Elive in their computers, so this is why i have added a new entry in the Howto's section with the instructions about how to boot your computer with Elive. It is meant to perfectly explained everything so that anybody be able to run Elive on his computer, you are welcome to suggest anything to add anything on it by simply sending me an email.

The idea still the same, that any kind of user be able to use Elive, without previous knowledge about gnu/linux or other things, if you know other things that needs to be more easy for a new end-user, you can suggest me it by for example reporting it as feature request in the BTS (bugs) website.

I profite also this entry to say that the development of Elive continues, of course, I say that because there's a lot of people in the IRC channel that doesn't see me anymore on it, the reason is simple: IRC takes a lot of time and i prefer to use this time for develop Elive, IRC makes me to lost a lot of time, so I don't expect to return really much on the IRC for now :). If you don't see any update recently is just because im rewriting ALL my personal tools, ways of work, automations, more stable and controled processes... everything, even my new Home structure system that is basically finished. I will try to finish these things as soon as possible and do an update of the actual Topaz version with minor fixes, and starting to work in the new kernel and updating all the packages, I can't say any date, just that ASAP :)

Have a nice day!

New Website: Collaborators (71 replies)

:info:
On the Elive Website we have a form to fill out for Collaborating with Elive. We have actually some collaborators/volunteers; unfortunately we don't have any specific tasks for them right now. All that is about to change: in the near future, we will have a list of 'requests' for miscellaneous things, like design concepts or new e17 modules. So let's pull these volunteers, and bring them some activity. Give them a ready-to-use site similar to social-network websites where they can share things with you, like their work, comments, forums, talk, etc etc... it can be used also for build an organized system for future development of Elive.

The idea of this website is not to be an official development outlet of Elive but more like a collaboration/fun/playing website, an indirect organization for ideas, brainstorming and code where users can share their work and other nice things in a kind of public multi-user blog HUG. A sandbox, if you will :)

We have some general ideas of what this website should or not should be, but the best is to continue in this forum thread where we can directly start collaborating, in order to decide what to build, how, what to use, and then finally do it

The real/official development of Elive will be on [dev.elivecd.org] but for this will be needed first to have a website where we can get familiar with each other, where to know their "creative work", their personality, dedication, etc. Maybe there is another person thinking along the same lines as you, and this is one venue to find out.

What we want to do
* Set up a multi-user kind of blog where the collaborators will share their works/collaborations/things, for example: somebody will write a small e17 module to show the public IP, somebody will design a nice animated e17 background, somebody will write a nice article about elive in X website, etc etc
* Other important points/ideas ?

Website related stuff
* Wordpress CMS: Why? because is a very complete CMS with a wide range of users/developers and so we have a lot of options like themes and plugins. It looks pretty friendly too and that is very important. That's the actual idea, any better suggestion ?
* [buddypress.org] : This provides a good social-networking/multi-user way of working in the website if we use wordpress.
* We should have a way/place where to upload files or to put things, not sure if the same website or by an external way
* A system of having documents editable by multiple users, like a simple wiki page
* Suggested domains names (and name for the site) ?
* Any better CMS suggestion(s) ? Maybe you already use something for this purpose; tell us about it!. Note: Trac is not a good option because is totally no-social-network at all and not friendly for a collaborative/multi-user (social) usage

What we need
* Collaborators:
* Moderators/Admin/Managers for the site, specially for starting to set it up, searching plugins/features/themes, implementing them, etc... making the site ready. If you are a volonteer just say that in your comments for this thread
* Organizers: organize the work, post replies, assign tasks, make decisions, etc, this requires a clear mind, because this may be the most important responsibility: to correctly organize everything. Think of this just like the work of a chief, manager, secretary, etc. If you are a volonteer just say that in your comments for this thread

What collaborations you can do
Everything useful is welcome, this includes:
* Coding: (e17 modules or any kind of useful coding)
* Designs: A good designer is a good designer, this will include having the ability to design using any software. The edje implementation of the designs is not required but very useful if you know it
* Promoting: This is very much needed for Elive too, you can help a lot by simply writing articles about Elive, promoting Elive on miscellaneous sites, or even better by thinking about marketing tactics and ideas to promote Elive better, this last will require some involvement from you and other volunteers like you

Possible Extra/Other Ideas
* Some kind of contest/reward system ($) for future work in the official development of Elive, for example "it needs an e17 module for Parental Control". This will bring up some motivation and could be inviting for E17/Elive developers. Feedbacks ?

We need your comments here with ideas and volunteers to set up everything meditate

Let's start the fun :boogie: :X :boogie:

Note: this post may be updated depending on (your) comments and ideas in order to have a clear vision of this thread.
Note2: Set this thread in mode 'watch' so that you will be noticed when there's a new post.

Hi everybody!

Maybe I have an idea:

I think the Elive User Guide remained unfinished too long and I think that a wiki is the suitable tool for that.
I was thinking to start to translate it in french but I found a french community (on the late), where an already french tranlated version was written! Then I saw annoucements for differents forums in differents languages and here comes the idea:

The wiki engine that I propose here is a wiki especially conceived to be perfectly multilingual. The principle it is a wiki which proposes as many interfaces/pages configured languages. Going to the test-site still in construction is better than long discourses.
Quickly: when you write a page in a language (english for example) its equivalent is generated in all other configured languages of the site, waiting until a charitable heart wants correctly to translate it.
Anwiki is still a little young but it is apparently usable in production. Moreover the author seems particularly active.:w00t:

The obvious advantage would be: rather than to divide the Elive community into as many languages why not, on the contrary, to create only one base of common and multilingual federator documentation ?!!!?
Then we can imagine, for example, that each community (such as this one) would preserve its forum, tickets, articles etc… But Their “documentation” link redirects on this common platform?
The evolution and the completion of the Elive User Guide would then be boosted! What do you think about that?

Once again the site is just a project and many things remain to do if this project is followed (design, to take contact with the various communities, to translate and write Doc.… Maybe even see with the author of anwiki for an importation script of accounts from docuwiki/phpbb etc... what would make possible for users to don't need to create new account on this one).

I've written a french post here.
Maybe a little poll would be great?

See you soon!

Today I have received an email from somebody that has say that don't want to try Elive because there's more complaints than good experiencies threads in the forum (lol), Ok so I have see that there's a really lot (more than 80 %) of posts on that thread that are just normal questions about Elive, I have moved some to the correct forum sections, and also removed old/solved ones.

There's also changes in the forum like renaming of the Sections, a more short title for the sections for Elive, notice that the Feature Request section of this subsection is moved to Toughts (also renamed) with the name Suggestions

I think that there's other things that needs to be renamed and/or ordered (sort order) on the forum, so tell me your thoughts/comments about this in order to made this forum better :)

Elive 2.0 - Pay to Install rather than download (38 replies)

I have just been looking at the Elive site and was looking at the download section.

As you know in order to download Elive you have to pay a donation which in all fairness is pretty fair I think given how much time and effort has gone in to the development of the operating system, however I just saw this on the download page:

"For the next stable release, it is planned to allow the download totally free. Instead of pay for the download you should pay just for the installation. This means that the live mode is entirely free and you should pay only if you want to install Elive in your hard disk."

Please tell me this is not serious? Does "should" actually mean "you wil have to"?
How is this pay to install system likely to work?
Does this mean that every time I want to re-install my machine I will have to pay another fee? If this is the case then I honestly think I will be saying bye bye to elive and installing another non M$ OS.

Does anyone else have any idea's / info on how this new pay to install system is going to work?
