Theme questions (getting new ones) (1 reply)

Hi guys, I am still pretty new to Elive and am not sure how
to get a theme I am looking for. It was posted in the Elive
forum a couple of years ago labeled as Siglo XIX. I can't
find where to get it. I also found one in the E17 theme
site called A-New-1890 which looks very similar. I
downloaded that one and tried to import the .edj file, it
gives an error asking if it is a valid theme. I checked the
about button and it tells me I have version 0.16.999.063
of Enlightement. When I look in Synaptic, the themes for
E17 are listed as being installed. So, do I have E17? Where
can I find the information on making a theme from the E17
site work? Is there somewhere I can upload a theme I have
modified for other Elive users?

is there anyway to install on a low power tablet?
im new to elive and am having trouble downloading and installing on my laptop and my tablet. i have been using linux on the laptop for a year or so now but in reality im very new to it all.
anyhelp would be greatly appreciated

i can't import some E17 themes, because, i read in "E17-Stuff" Topaz have an old version of E17, how can i upgrade to a newer version?

Enlightenment Desktop Icons Gone (no replies)

Regarding desktop icons representing open/minimized windows.

i dragged one of these icons across the deskop, and it disappeared. Now, no open-window icons will display on the deskop.

how can i show desktop window icons?

Dark color theme Question (1 reply)

Tried the three dark-background color themes. They each use a strange blue-purple color for the window controls + - X ( in upper-right corner of the window frame ). This color blends into the dark window frame, which makes them practically hidden.
Where are these colors set ? Are they modifiable ?
Also, if there is a vertical scroller control (ala Apple Mac), it is very hard to see.

I searched around for other dark E17 themes, but none show the window frame, only the window pane. pain :confused:?

hello all I have a problem since I installed, just first time distributions topaz Elive 2.0, and I can not connect to the internet it means I can not carry out a wireless network configuration despite the fact that all the home wireless network, are properly implemented. please help Charles

ELive used to be the best incarnation of Enlightenment in a Linux distribution.

Not any more.

Users who are annoyed with the fact that they had to pay for eLive, and/or that it seems to be dead or at least abandoned, you now have a better alternative!

Bodhi Linux has just been released in its final 1.0.0 form following several beta releases.

Why are we making Bodhi when there are hundreds of existing Linux distros? Is it redundant? Bodhi sets itself apart from other Linux distros due to it's use of the Enlightenment desktop. Examining all the Linux distros, you will find fewer than a dozen that use Enlightenment.

How to add "Places" module? (3 replies)

I would like to learn to add a module that is not in the elive repository. There are several interesting ones on the Exchange site, and I have seen the Places module working on PCLOS. So I downloaded it:

Do I have to compile it? If so, how? The eLive User Guide talks about "make-deb compile", but that doesn't seem to exist in Topaz.

Anybody know how to install a module from svn?

I tried autogen.sh, but this is what I got:

Hello,

I have installed elive on a notebook IBM Thinkpad R50e with max. resolution of 1024x768.
Now I have a program that needs at least 1280x1024 resolution.

Is it possible to set a higher resolution than 1024x768 e.g. by defining a virtual resolution 1280x1024? If possible, where do I have to define this ?

Enlightenment instability in Topaz (3 replies)

Hi,

I am looking for some help trying to figure out how to find the root cause for my Enlightenment instability in Topaz.

I have a Vaio VGN-Z570N which is relatively new.
I installed on it eLive 1.9.49, and subsequently 1.9.56 unstable versions, and it ran for quite a while without any issues.

This week I decided to get Topaz installed. I downloaded it, and did a clean install on the Vaio. I removed the old partitions, recreated new ones and did the clean installation.
As part of my "personalization" process, I have added a few new applications to the IBar at the center, modified some icons, and played with a couple of other shelve settings. My issue with Enlightenment in Topaz that was never observed on the unstable versions are the following:

1. Enlightenment will just freeze. I can move the mouse around, but right or left click does not work. Moving the mouse over the icons in IBar won't affect them. Any key combination on the keyboard also does not work. I end up having to hold the power button to restart the laptop. Normally I would have been able to go to another non-X window and issue a reboot, but the keyboard won't reply to my commands.

2. Shelf number 6 on the top right hand corner with the pager (1 row, 4 workspaces), sometimes loses its settings, more specifically the setting for: Allow windows to overlap the shelf.
This causes the application windows to fail to fully expand the monitor.
The same happens with shelf number 10 on the top left hand corner that holds IBox. I have only noticed this being an issue with both of these top shelves. I have observed it 3 times in the last couple of days.

I wish there was a good way to figure out what is being issue number 1, as this is the one that is most annoying when I am working on something, and all of a sudden I can't even save my work.

Hi forum,
I am trying to get a USB boot identical to the system I installed on my desktop. I was able to boot on a laptop with no problem after having made the USB boot key but it's like the CD version. Meaning no changes I made on the desktop has been saved for the USB boot. So the question is, is it possible to have like a mirror of a desktop or would we be limited to a copy of the ISO CD ?

That's because I couldn't find the code in the way explained in the configuration dialog.
It asks me to go to [weather.yahoo.com], find my location and then, find the respective code in the url. But in this way I couldn't do so!

Hi,
I was using this module for a long time, I think it's one of the optionnals emodules I use the most, but since few versions it doesn't work anymore, now it's just creating an almost empty black image of 1px²!!??
Is anybody has same problem? A solution?
I don't know if a command line shot with this module can be made, if so it can maybe a bit more verbose about what's wrong...

Hi,
I've played a bit with modules and I got a problem with flame module: it simply does'nt want to be disabled, when I try, Enlightenment just bug and propose to recover or exit... And flames and still there...
I 'm with standard theme, but with 2 screens connected on Nvidia card.
Is there any way to disable the module "by hand" I mean by editing a file or enter a command?

Connecting to enlightenment by NX server (no replies)

Hi everybody,
I would like to connect to my elive box using nx-server, do you know how to do that?
It's almost working by selecting gnome as asked desktop, then it falls back to default one; but with limited fonctionnalities (no desktop view, not able to run root-apps....)
Is there a knowed trick to make it working?
Do you you maybe how normally do we invoke enlightenment (as kde use 'startkde')?

I can start a session using 'enlightenment_start' command the desktop is now viewable but I'm still not able to run root applications...

Mouse Flip? (3 replies)

I can't seem to activate the edge flip feature of e17 (where you move the mouse to the edge of the screen and it moves over one virtual desktop). From the settings panel I've selected "animated flip" and "Pane" under flip animation but its not working for me. Neither can I move a window to the screen edge and have it pop into the next virtual desktop, which is (I think) normal E17 behavior. Is this an ecomorph issue? Or am I missing something obvious?

I like using 2 monitors. With my Generic Debian I just installed the Nvidia tools and it was easy to configure. I don't see any tools for this with the eLive distrubution. I like they way it it so I don't want to mess anything up ...but I just want to enable twinview...Any help would be nice. Can reply this post or directly to my email pcpinkerton@gmail.com Thanks

Although I have installed the new compiz version of elive, my current video card doesn't support this type of display. For this reason at login I have to select "Default" out of the 3 possibilities (E17 - ..., Default, Failsafe). So that I don't always have to select the default, is there a way to change it so that "Default" is also the default value for login?

Hey all,

I am using a nvida graphics card and running dual monitors with the "twinview" option.

Problem is, I cannot switch workspaces with the pager on the secondary monitor. I would love to have 4 workspaces that can be switchs independently for each monitor.

Any help or information would be great, thanks.

But when I restarted the machine, the connection was gone.
I didn't find the pppoe command in the terminal...

losing ability to change themes (2 replies)

does anyone else get this?
i've experienced the symptom in Gem+ and also using emerald...after a few sessions, trying to switch themes has no effect...
in one account the theme is "stuck" on the elive default, in another account it's stuck on milky
where is this setting being held?
