In Elive it is not possible to use US international keyboard out of the box.

But you can get it worked with an work around

First of all you need root access.

Start a terminal type su and root password

Than as root type dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

This will start an application which will ask for several settings.

AFAIK you can leave the default options enabled until it ask for Use Framebuffer device interfaceYou should check this option.

Next it asks for Autodetect Keyboard Layout You should uncheck this option.

Next it ask for Keyboard Layout You should type
us_intl

Thats it. The rest of the settings can be kept as is.

After restarting the x-server you should be able to use the features of the international english keyboard.

You have to figure out how you can access all the keys you need, but there are a couple of good sites explaining how to type foreign keys with us intl keyboard.

For example u can type "and o to get and ö
or "and a to get ä or "and u to get ü.

With right alt + 5 you can get the € Euro Sign.

With 'and a you can get á (...)

Special Thanks to roxville from elive Irc Chat, he was the one who had figured out the way how this works. clap

On my US keyboard here is how i get it

In vim that is:
Go to insert mode (press a or i)
Press CTL-K
Press c and ,

Now I also boot to Mandriva, and /usr/share/doc/vim-common-6.3/doc/digraph.txt shows the combination too so you could probably use in apps other than vim, but I am lazy so I just highlight the special c and copy and paste it straight from the manual.

in vim type this command at bottom
:digraphs
to see other characters
