(Solved!) Webcams failed @1.9.xx dev / GSPCA Drivers
June 04, 2009 06:47AM
Hi there, i have an Eeepc 1000ha and everything seems to work just fine. I installed dev 1.9.26 and even the webcam (attached to the frame of the screen) worked, but when i updated my system (i don't know when or how), the webcam stoped working. Now i tryed dev 1.9.28 and 1.9.29 and webcam still doesn't work, so i assume there's something new that is bugging the function of the cam. what should i do? is there a way to configure it?

web cam (t034a) failed @ 1951dev
December 05, 2009 06:26PM
Hi i renewed my system from some old elive dev(maybe 1921, wel hslf year old or something) to latest 1.9.5.1 dev

previously my web cam worked with all software for debian/elive- skype, camorama, xawtv, and others..

now it wont, cause of some werid things that apeared on new dev ? i dont know,.. cam works with that default previev shity tool that comes with elive, but not with other tools, and at previous elive i didnt haved that webcam previeev tool that is on 1951...

skype shows green corupted screen, other programs something similar..

this is driver for that cam and devs site, but drivers only for win..
T034A [www.acme.eu]

so now my webcam doesent work, yea i know its crappy cam after all, but with previous elive it worked - now it not - thats the point

it is needed to know the name of the driver for linux, or the driver for linux that has worked in previous elive versions for you. you can know this by using google with your model of webcam, when you know the name of the linux driver, report a "feature request" in the [bugs.elivecd.org] site

you can also know the name of the driver loaded on that previous version of elive that has worked with this command (with the webcam connected and working): lsmod | awk '{print $1}' | sort -u > lsmod.txt

Then go to the system where it not works and do the same thing to a different lsmod.txt file, then you can compare both files to know WHICH one you have loaded in the system that works, that is the driver for your webcam

Hi,

yea right.. new system is over old writen, so this kind of ways already impossible to determine. What diffs ?
Old elive was etch, new one is lenny.
But if ive find that driver, i will do as i suggestet.

Looks like there's no driver for your webcam or that this application doesn't works with your webcam, please try to use another application like the package 'cheese'

Webcam does not work / Driver needed
April 03, 2008 04:53PM
Hello!
I recently bought a Speedlink Webcam SL-6840-SWT.
("-SWT" describes the white model. It's also available in black. That one is named "-SBK"wink
Unfortunately I can't use this Device because the Drivers that come with the Cam are useless.
What do I have to do to make this Webcam work?

Thank you so much for helping me!

More detailed Information:

OS: Elive Gem and OpenSuSE 10.3

Speedlink Webcam SL-6840-SWT

The Webcam's Chip is a Sonix SN-201

The Drivers (Linux.ko) is compiled under Fedora 4.0 and is available here: [www.speed-link.com]

If its Fedora I'm assuming its in a rpm package that Elive won't like. You'll need to convert that to a Debian package like so:

Me@elive# alien -d /home/Israel/example.rpm
 	                exaple-1_i386.deb generated

This will convert it to Debian. Then just run it.

GSPCA webcam

Main "problem" why my cam didnt worked:
[bugs.debian.org]

Work around ways:

If your device is created but your image looks strange (mine was nearly completely green), you probably need this.

If the application has V4L2 support but no pixelformat support (eg: cheese) then use the following command:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so cheese

If the application only supports the older version of V4L (skype is the most popular of this kind of software) then use this command:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

or
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so "program"

Hint: You also might want to put a line like the following into your .bashrc or .xinitrc so you don't have to type that long command all the time:

export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so
or
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
or
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
