NVIDIA 5200

i have the same problem, (im testing 1.9.51 on an athlon 2.2 1gb ram, wifi atheros, and a video board MSI 5200) i choose the desire resolution (1280x1024) but no way......the resolution stays in 640x480 with the nvidia new driver, same with 173, with the older ones, i could use 800x600 reso.
I tried to install the nvidia web site driver, but at the installation menu, at some point, it says that i need to recompile the nvidia-kernel or something like that (sorry im just a newbie on linux, i only had some experience with xubuntu).
I edited a bit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but nothing, any sugestions or something to guidme to a solution?

cheers

Hi elpiloto!

You wrote:" I edited a bit the xorg.conf"
What do you mean by editing it "a bit"?
How about posting your xorg.conf here? so anybody could read it.
