Inclusion of kernel support for bcm43xx
August 28, 2007 11:26AM
I just installed Elive Gem and noticed that support for Broadcom wireless devices was not enabled in the kernel (bcm43xx). I was able to get the device functioning by following these instructions, which included the kernel compile: [forums.debian.net]

Will this be enabled in future versions of Elive?

Tottaly agree. Broadcom is not a very friendly ally with the Open community but i found a .deb in ubuntu forums to work this out. The packages works but this is not ubuntu so i used ndiswrapper to install the windows drivers but what about having it default?

In the latest beta, the bcm43xx driver module is loaded. You still have to do some work, at least I did. You have to install the bcm43xx-fwcutter deb and then download the appropriate firmware from linuxwireless.org. Follow the docs at linuxwireless.org and you'll be set.

I know that the deb says it's downloading the firmware, but it didn't seem to work for me.
