Hey Lol, who do you think you are talking to people like that?, lose the attitude, we don't need people like you in this forum bad mouthing people like that. If you can't answer without being rude don't answer at all. clap

I'm terribly sorry

You're quite right ... and under normal circumstances I'd simply have posted the link

I'd had a really bad day, talking to rude and lazy people when I wrote it

On top of that, I'm coming off nicotine really badly right now and a lot grumpier than I would normally be in any case

They're still not excuses, I know, but might help explain - I'm not normally that aggressive and, once again, I appologise to everyone here ... especially mika2008 ... Please forgive me

---

I've edited my reply to make it helpful, rather than agressive

I'm glad that's sorted - I'm really embarrassed / ashamed by that outburst, to tell the truth ... and just hope mika2008 can find it in his heart to forgive me

I don't really know a lot about eLive, to tell the truth

Although I discovered it about a year ago now, I've only recently got around to installing it - I gave up for a long time, because the version of isolinux used just wasn't compatible with my DVD drive

I've been dying to try it out, but for the last couple of years I've been trying to change my career path - I'm sick of being a techie ... (Never meant to be either, it just happened by accident) ... and been focussing on using computers rather than the things themselves ... trying to progress myself as a producer/DJ/artist

I'm a long-term computer user, but not even a linux expert, never mind an eLive one ... although I am a Windows expert (for my sins)

I'm not exactly a linux newbie, though, either ... I have used linux in the past, and went reasonably in depth into it ... (was playing around with it from Slackware 1.0 to RedHat 7.2) ... but I'm not an expert ... (gave up on it to focus on maintaining my more employable MS skillset)

I did use Unix for my Comp.Sci. studies at university for five years ... (although my primary focus was Psychology) ... Used VAX/VMS prior to that ... Started out programming on a ZX81 twenty-eight years ago ... So, I've got a pretty good understanding of stuff and know how to ask the right questions to get the information I need

But I really like the look of the distro for all kinds of reasons - Any reliable E-based distro appeals to me not just for the eye-candy, but ... more importantly ... for it's usability ... but I prefer a Debian based one for the stability and availability of resources

Astoundingly, I'm getting a LOT of help and support from the folks over at OzOS, even though I'm using eLive ... and if I can learn to understand their special E-management scripts and suchlike, I'd like to adapt them to eLive, keep using it, but consider myself an 'OZeLive' user - Much as I like the work they've done ... and I absolutely love the community ... I prefer the 'thin', 'lean' feel of eLive right now ... and I prefer not to use a *buntu base, if at all possible

So, I'm fumbling my way around at the moment, finding stuff out .... and I'm happy to impart anything I do learn, if it will help anyone

But, I'm getting more help from others right now than I could give back ... especially when it comes to E ... so, I wouldn't look to me to be anything more than a casual source of the occasional tidbit of information for quite a while to come

Wow Lol very cool. I have been using Elive for over a year and have had no problems with 1.0, and 1.9.16 is very stable. I tried OzOs and found it to be a very nice distro, but i will always kept Elive. The OzOs forum is very good with a lot of good people.I to like any distro that is Debian based, they just seem to work out of the box.

1.9.16 is very stable

Does that mean you've installed it?

I think it's a VAST improvement over GEM - For a start, it finds my SATA drives!

But I'm a little worried about the boot/shutdown screens I see when starting/leaving the liveCD - I'm trying to win people over to eLive / OzOS and anything that detracts from the 'experience' ... albeit cosmetic ... (perhaps even especially if it's cosmetic) ... is something I wanna avoid when I show them to people

So, I need to know that the startup/shutdown will look the same as in GEM, before I go ahead and install it - Getting GEM installed was an absolute nightmare ... and I don't wanna go through it again, if I can help it!

There will be a stable release of this e17-compiz version, like Elive 2.0-compiz?

Oh my god!!! I've been running the dev version of Elive for some time now and it runs really smooth. Now on Sunday I got a popup with news from elive. It was really breathtaking to read that the special edition featered compiz. I didn't hesitate a second and downloaded the iso.

It really runs like a dream, thank you all for this nice version and I hope we get the option to install elive 2.0 with our without compiz

The actual version will broke if you update it, the next one will be a bit less "eye-candy" but more usable emosmile, i think that there's already an updated iso on the server...
