News!!!!

Thanatermesis tells us in his blog: :P

Today, me and Anabell, the new organizer and marketing director of Elive, had a very good idea for Elive, as you know, Elive is an unique operating system in all the world because doesn't follow any rule stablished by the system, Elive has personality and the power to be free as how it wants to be, and now, we are going to include an incredible feature never seen before in any other operating system, but more than a feature is an amazing gift...

Unfortunately I can't say anything about what is this feature, because we want it to be a big big surprise!, we want to listen echo's of OMG in all around the world!, the only thing that I can say about it is that is not very much related with software or applications but is something like an unvaluable gift, even with a good bunch of thousands of money you can't have a better gift, I think that this part is a little fun because sometimes there's a strange user lost around there saying that 15 bucks is a lot of money (even if we have non-paying options), now we are offering something comparable to thousands of bucks!, but anyways... I don't worry about these ones, because as you know, Elive is made for whom appreciates it, nobody obliges you to use Elive, you are free, so remain free.

Intriguing......

I'm afraid you may be right. The message is 11 days old, it will be interesting to see how many weeks go by without any explanation.

Of course, Elive is their own possession, they have the right to do as they want.

I hope you are right. I really like the way my old machine works with e17.

I mac pup this this morning, worked really well save for the weird package manager. It also has OpenShot, a real handy thing to include, and access to the additional repos. Perhaps it will prove to be to my liking.

Just a feedback:

I love elive but has become an old distro, unchanged, in spite of improvements in the packages used by elive remain the same for 3 years. Similarly, support is brief and hardly can see a solution to our own problems and rarely see valuable help, especially with beginners.
I am an "elive user" since 4 years ago but I decide to change it to LMDE, I want to keep "elive" but I prefer to change it, and wait for an update. An example of the slow elive team reacts to changes is this gift that Thanatermesis anunced two months ago... today there are not news.

Best regards and hope you take constructively this mesage.

Best regards.

I suppose they are waiting on the next Debian to be released before going ahead. I've looked over the recent E distros, pretty much all I can find, and none have the common-sense that Elive had. My hope is that there is more news after Debian arrives.

A lot of members are waiting for grounded INFORMATIONS about the new Elive. What is the big Present your are talking about?
Re: News
March 06, 2011 04:46PM
As much as I love Elive.. and I do (We even installed Elive onto a host of Internet PC,s at work, which resulted in more people "buying" the distro)
However.. people have moved back over to other distros as Elive is just not keeping up ...
I hope the news is something that can bring people back to the disto, a fresh new release with regular updates ..
and hopefully a better method for payment

Fingers crossed...

I love this distro enough that I have donated 4 times. That being said I think it's really sad that the Elive team is letting their distro die away like this. Still no news, and a 6 month dead blog... combined with no email responses, and no responses on the forum. Im wondering if the forum is even being moderated anymore... or if Thanatermesis is logging in on sock accounts to market golf clubs and movies ( spam posts arent being taken down ::cough cough:: ) to the few people that are still poking around hoping for some news on the development of Elive. ( I am saying this jokingly )

Come on guys, please throw us a bone. The IRC is even dead.

::Edit::- deleted redundant text and added a couple of things.

Hello wirelessjunkie, to be moderator requires simply to be a "common user" with some activity, I see that you are actually not very active in the forum but we can give you moderator privileges in the future if you like emosmile

For now, you can simply click in the "report" button of these people that you think that needs to be banned and they will be reviewed.

Thanks for your collaboration with the housekeeping emosmile

It would be nice to keep something going, though to be honest it has beed dead for quite a while, with open promises of things to come etc..
Many distros now offer an e17 spin, so Elive would have to pull something special out of the bag, especialy if you expect people to pay to install it.

Thanatermesis, did you get a job at Apple or are you rewriting the whole of Elive?
Re: News!!!!
September 25, 2011 08:06PM
Haha, no apple emosmile

I'm rewriting the whole Elive, that's true. It is not a fun task but will make future updates and features easiest and fastest to implement and maintain, with very possible automated builds for having always updated packages.

Actually im importing all the packages of Elive to the new build system, and this is a very slow task, when most of them will be available, first versions of Elive (development) will appear, unfortunately the e17 theme is no more compatible and will need also a full rewrite.

Re: News!!!!
September 26, 2011 06:23PM
Hey August emosmile

How it is actually your knowledge of the edje (edc) code ? I know that actually has changed a little (new features).

Basically the theme will be the same (it is important to maintain the "clean" look that it has, like simple, white, correct visually, etc... by other side it will include some special features). My actual idea is to modify the original theme to adapt on it the look of the Elive one, maintaining the most similar structure (in code) that the original one, like comments, etc... in order to update it more easly with the original one when it changes (using meld, or even "git"). I need to look how to manage that, too

Thanatermesis
Re: News!!!!
September 26, 2011 06:51PM

#if 0

Creo digo creo que podre descompilaralo si hace eso que le pido.

De todas maneras usted decide.

Hi bouba,

There's not really a roadmap, specially because it is only needed to finish the internal parts (which are not roadmapped) in order to build the first dev versions. After that, maybe teh progress can be traced by a roadmap.

Actually I'm having problems with the translations by google, but it will be fixed soon. I'm trying to port all the new packages. Im not sure when a first version will be built emosmile. Maybe for start the new year ? Could be nice...
