Does the stable version have updated software?

I was using updated versions of GIMP, OpenOffice, and Opera in both Ubuntu and Linux Mint. These versions work just fine. I have the latest developmental release and I noticed that these packages are out of date. Does the stable release include newer versions of these programs?

Thanks!

Is that version going to have the livecd that can be run prior to paying, just to make sure it works with my hardware?

Thank you. I am looking forward to it. I'm still relatively new to Linux so I like to make sure it works with my hardware first. The development version seems to work beautifully.
