Firewall????
March 12, 2010 09:49PM
Hi All,
I'm new to eLive and really like the distro, I've tried quite a few Linux distros and normally I spend days getting the printer, scanner or sound to work and after a distro upgrade going through the same painful issues of getting something else to work with the new version but everything worked instantly with eLive Topaz 2.0 even my Philips Boombox with USB connection.
I'm setting up eLive now to get it how I like it but can't find any firewall program, not sure which firewall app to install through Synaptic (if any) thats best suited to elive.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Hi,

The best (I think) is to ask yourself: what do you need? Something you have a look on and you can easily modify (changing rules etc...) or something just simple to block basics attacks?

For the first one, I agree with Stanca as firestarter is one of the only available interface (I'm not sure but his development can be stopped now so maybe you will need to look for gufw or any ufw interface then)

For the second one if you need somehing simple (as only one machine or simple router system and little home network) you can use for example easy firewall generator for iptables; for bigger network best can be to write your own rules or look in synaptic for "iptables" you can find some rules writers/helpers...)
I have preference for the easy generator solution which should be strong enough for home use and has also a good point I like: It's just light!

You can also see that this easy script is a bit outdated (as it has been written on 2.4 kernel!!! emosmile but once more, it should work...

Ciao
