Elive Compiz
March 25, 2009 11:28AM
The article described above prompted me to download and try Elive Compiz and man, it really blew me off! I haven't experienced the bugs described yet coz this distro is running smoothly on my machine even on a LiveCD...in fact, I am writing this Elive Compiz in LiveCD mode. What I still can't figure out is how to change the way my window transitions behave. I can't seem to figure out how to configure Compiz. I am not a linux hardcore user so this seems a challenge to me. I searched google and tried the solutions for other linux distros but they don't seem to work here. Can anyone give me ideas?

Must admit I too am well impressed with the compiz version .... worked as an upgrade for me and Wings3d - Blender and Gimp work fine ......
Firefox is wickedly fast too ....

Have a few minor problems - but mainly to do with running wine .....

But my applause to a great job clap

Elive always seems to work on anything I stuff the cd into. So, I always try to keep the latest cd handy. I installed the latest unstable "gem" and decided it is indeed a gem. But then I saw the "compiz" version and downloaded that. Wow! And that bears repeating. Wow!

If the compiz version is released as stable, it will almost end my search for the perfect Linux distro. The only thing that would make it more perfect would be a version for x86-64.

And now I'm gonna have to put money where my mouth is. But sadly, you'll just have to wait till the first of next month.

clap clap (A double round of applause because it's well deserved.

Use "ecsm" (the echochrome equivalent of ccsm for compiz), and fiddle around with the controls and add- ons. I haven't found any better tutorial than the one that shows up at the boot for configuring compiz (or echochrome). emosmile Apparently everyone seems to think it's completely intuitive once you get it installed, lol.

But the plugins you need is "scale", and maybe mapping it to a screen- corner. And "expo" for displaying all desktops. The animations are neat, but can be enabled one by one. In the general settings, you can control the transparency effects. Adding something like (class=Iceweasel) or (class=Abiword) ..(not AbiWord, or abiword..), and setting it to 90%) will make the apps transparent.

Of course... this really needs a wiki of some kind.. there are a lot of overlaps on functions and so on, so it's not so easy to just find exactly what you want, imo.
