Use "ecsm" (the echochrome equivalent of ccsm for compiz), and fiddle around with the controls and add- ons. I haven't found any better tutorial than the one that shows up at the boot for configuring compiz (or echochrome).

Apparently everyone seems to think it's completely intuitive once you get it installed, lol.
But the plugins you need is "scale", and maybe mapping it to a screen- corner. And "expo" for displaying all desktops. The animations are neat, but can be enabled one by one. In the general settings, you can control the transparency effects. Adding something like (class=Iceweasel) or (class=Abiword) ..(not AbiWord, or abiword..), and setting it to 90%) will make the apps transparent.
Of course... this really needs a wiki of some kind.. there are a lot of overlaps on functions and so on, so it's not so easy to just find exactly what you want, imo.
