Hello all. I just downloaded and after considerable effort I finally got Elive to start on my machine. I would like to install it but not sure. Although, I am very inexperience with Linux and have never used Enlighten.

Concerns are my video card which is an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro PCIe card. In Ubuntu I have always used the restricted drivers. To get Elive to boot up I had to choose Vesa. Using the Radeon or fglrx drivers did not work at all. I don't need a fancy desktop effects like Compiz although my grand daughter likes them. This was the main reason I did not run Debian. Installing the proper driver.

I also had to use my internal dvd rom drive to get Elive to boot also. My external did not work, although Elive seems to detect my external drive.

My other concern will be setting up my printer. It is a HP Deskjet F4180.

I will use my computer primarily for holding my CD collection and watching DVD's.

I'm not even sure how to install from the Live CD.By the way this will be the only OS on the hard drive. And I gave more money than I seem to see others spending, so please help

Here's a tutorial on installing Gem.

I wonder why there's seem to be no moderator here to answer all the questions?

I was wondering the same thing about the moderators. Isn't answering our questions part of the maintenance of the project that they have taken the donation for?

I just downloaded the ISO yesterday and am still struggling to boot from the CD and go into live mode. 3 cd wasted and much anxiety later I am no closer.

And the main problem is that I really want to use this shit!

Try to boot on a USB stick to install Elive.
Even if it doesn't work, you would not waste any CD ^^
