Hello, i have got a little question.
Its not really important for me, but for my brother.
His PC is quite old, and Elive Linux worked really fine.
The Flashplayer was way better than on others like Xubuntu.
The Problem now is, that I dont have the chance to registry myself for Paypal, and I dont have Money,too.
The other thing i tried to write an Article about Elive on Ubuntuusers.de , But an Article still existed.
So I Dont know where to write about this, and I cant write alot things, cause I cant install it.

Now I want to ask, how can I get a chance to install Elive on the PC without paying?

Why you don't install the zeitgeist version? It is so stable as the Topaz version and is for free.

excuse me, what is the Zeitgeist Version?
I tried the Compiz Version first, and another one I think.
Problem that there was no Kernel, so the WLAN didnt work
Can you tell me, what should I download?
I Cant Download a Developer Version, it doesnt exist on a server.

EDIT: Ok, I've found a Zeitgeist Version 1.9.61
Does it have WLAN-Support?

I can't ensure that the zeitgeist version will support your wlan card, but you get more chances than the compiz version. The more recent Compiz version is the elive 1.9.42 and the zeitgeist version is the elive 19.61. Note that the last development version before elive 2.0 was the 19.62, so there is no big diferences betwen zeitgeist and topaz releases.

Its faster than on other Systems.
Even my System is faster with Elive, so wanted to install elive on my PC.

But ive got a Problem

Ive got Ubuntu 9.10 installed, and it uses GRUB 2.
Ive got unused space(that shows me gparted)

Has anyone installed Elive in Ubuntu 9.10 in Dualboot?

I do and I have to use Elive's legacy grub to boot both of them,of course by editing the menu.lst file,with Ubuntu's Grub2 I can't boot Elive no matter what I try to do.But with Elive's grub I can't boot my Hackintosh either.

Hey, without trying to get a rise out of anyone I have to say that a little more than a year ago (maybe a little longer) I was messing around with elive and found that it is a pretty nice distro. Recently a couple of friends were interested in some linux distros, and I had recommended elive to them, a couple of days later my friend had challenged me on the fact that I had told him linux distros were all free. I acknowledge that my generalized conversation was a bit presumptuous but i was a bit taken back by the fact that there does not seem to be a "free" version of this distro any longer. I have to be completely honest when I say I do not see by any stretch of the imagination that the product elive delivers takes rank over any other distro of its caliber. After all what has elive actually developed? Am I wrong about the thought that this is in fact another compilation as is any fork in any other distro? This is based on Debian w/ an Enlightenment desktop correct? I do understand that it is assembled and polished and like I said a "nice distro" but I cannot for the life of me believe that someone dreamed a thought of having someone write an essay about elive to gain access to its use. I personally use UE (Ubuntu Ultimate Edition) and feel that they have proven stability and endless amounts of time invested and they only ask that we contribute if we can. So how does an unproven distro feel justified in requesting money or even ones time for its usage when it has a hard time even sitting in the top 25 distros on Distrowatch.

Have you tried the Zeitgeist version at all? It is very good and it may be a little trickier than Topaz, but it is better than most of the stable releases out there. It is good and it is free to install.

You also should check out what the word "free" means in the GPL, "When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for them if you wish), that you receive source code or can get it if you want it, that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new free programs, and that you know you can do these things."

Elive is not the first distro to charge money, but it might be the best. Compare the price for Elive with Red Hat, the business model is a little different, but I think that Elive is a better value.

One other thing to consider when you get anything thing for free is the cost in time that you take to get it, so when you consider that, there really is nothing that comes for free.
