Live CD issue, cannot install Elive
September 12, 2007 09:51PM
Hello, I'm having issues trying to install Elive on my machine. Here's my setup:

AMD Athlon XP 2.800
512 RAM
120 HD
Nvidia GForce MX 4000
Mother Asus (Asrock)

I downloaded the iso from linuxtraker and also from mininova and also from a spanish site. I used Nero and burned image properly. The 2nd time I used Alcohol 120, everything seemed fine.

Here is the issue, when i boot from the cd
and go for the installer, an error message pops up displaying the following:

Elive installer stopped running unexpectedly

Error information
an ext code of 1 was returned from sudo eliveinstaller

Output Data
Start installer
Unmounting possible mounted partitions
The Old Elive system lists as:

Selection of a partitioner

(then to the right it shows)

Error logs
/usr/bin/zenity:error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libcairo.so2: invalid ELF header

/usr/bin/zenity:error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libcairo.so2: invalid ELF header

I don't know what's happening and what's weird is that it's happened with 2 different iso's and I made sure to burn them as images, not as regular files.

Please help as I'm really pleased with how elive looks and feels. All I have left to do is the installation.

Many thanks.

Check the MD5 of the iso.

I checked it and yes, it was a corrupt iso. However, after having successfully created another elive cd from another iso, I tried installing it, apparently nothing was done incorrectly. Here's my new problem:

When I put my username and password (E16 and 17)it looks as though it's about to show the desktop but all I see is sort of like a grey screen and it comes back to the login screen. I am able to do a failsafe login, but I don't know why I'm not able to login as a regular user.

Please advice, thank you.

Hey! I have a similar issue and the MD5 seems ok. The screeen goes jumpy with grayish colours and you can vaguely see a line with numbers and letters but it's barely visible. This happens before the login.
I have an old P2 intelMMX 233MHz, 160MB RAM with S3 Trio 64V+ video adapter, 10Gig IDE drive with windows 2000 on one partition1/2 the drive. I read that Elive works well with very little processor power so I gave it a try. Note: I tried 6 different distros for slower computers and all could not recognise my video card, also some fatal error messages for acpi for thermal/fan, RDSP failed, among other problems. Anyone knows a) what are they b)how to get them to work and C)where are the drivers ect...

The only live CDS that worked were Kaella (but I want an english distro)and Dynebolic (but no sound would work nor firefox!) At this point any distro in english that runs at least a bit faster than Win2000 with firefox (is Opera possible?), audio capabilities (download, listen to and burn audio, and the possibility of glimpsing at streaming video so I can download and transfer to my better computer) even if it's choppy, would work for that computer! I read that there are people running Xubuntu and others on equally old laptops so why can't I (still prefer Elive)?

Thanx in avance! Note/complaint: Why is (linux)it hard in the start-up! Why can't the learning curve be smoother for a newbie like me!?

not Xhackuna...who edited that in is beyond me!- the point is there are distros for old computers that work.

(See end of last paragraph)
