How to... install Pidgin without deleting important stuff
August 11, 2007 12:51AM
I guess it's mandatory to start with praise for the new release, so "Good work" to y'all!

But to get straight to the point: I'm trying to get Pidgin into my system. But apt-get is telling me that in order to do so, i'm supposed to delete things like entrance. How come? Is there a way to overcome this?

Thanks in forward.

My apt-get couldn't even find it, only Gaim.
But if apt-get says so it seems to conflict.
You could try to install the source at your own risk.

I tried.

./configure gave me a few dependencies, some of them wanted me to reomve mentioned important stuff.

Isn't there any way to force the install of something without giving it the possibility to delete?

Well, if you only need some library's set you can do that as root and place them in the right directory maybe that works, but again it can make other applications unstable or even quit working, you should decide yourself. Otherwise maybe you can place everything separately on a place (for example in your home directory) and try to configure everything from there but that can take a lot off time to let it work.

Why do you not install Gaim with apt-get ?

Not that easy. When i try to install the packages it says: error, dependency is not satisfiable: pidgin.

So i think we're still in the starting point.
