Window Resizing is S L O W (1.9.27)

If I drag the edge of a window to resize, the window will freeze for about 5-10 seconds. I did not notice this on the live CD. Seems to happen as the window dimension pop-up comes up.

Three different installs give the same result.

I have a Pentium D with Nvidia 9500gt and a gig of RAM.

Hi!
How about disabeling the dimension-pop-up?
idea

Finally found it in the Enlightenment Settings. Disabling the dimension pop-up does not help.

I also tried some changes in the Ecomorph settings to no avail.

Should I send this in as a bug? Is anyone else having this issue, or is this a hardware issue? Maybe I need to dig into my xorg.conf.

Hi down8ve , i do not have that problem.

Remove the transparency of Emerald , to see if works better.

OK, I'm now in the live CD and am having the same issue as when it was installed: window resizing grinds everything to a halt.

Agust, I did not see any "emerald" manager as found in Gnome/KDE, think you meant Ecomorph.

After messing around with various settings, I totally disabled Ecomorph, logged back in without it, and STILL have this problem.

So I was wrong to assume it has anything to do with Ecomorph. I'm trying come basic XORG changes now. Anything I should look for?

I'm using the nvidia driver,
color depth of 32,
Enabled extensions are "RANDR" (that's one I don't know), "RENDER," and "Composite."

DRI mode is 0666 (evil).

My EGVA 9500GT/1gig video card is listed as "Configured Video Device."

Tried adding
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
to the monitor section, added the Load "glx" module section and loged out/in. Same problem.

I have to think I am having issues with the nvidia driver.

Hi down8ve , MainMenu > Execute , type Emerald.

Emerald theme manager > Edit theme > shadows.

Nvidia-(Geforce 7300LE) no problem.

Tried it all, no luck. MD5 checked, too. Must have a system that is not compatible.

Perhaps I shall try again after the release.

Thanks!

Hi down8ve

i solved this issue by typing this in cmd line:

nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1 &

it worked immediatelly for my thinkpad r61i, Quadro NVS 140M, it seems to be nvidia driver issue

after success i added this to load by default

asides,

Thanks so very much for this gem! That did the trick, but I am testing it out on the live CD, as I went to Kubuntu of all things to find a decent desktop. Nice, but Elive is so fast (save for this issue).

Should I install this, how would I have this command launch by default? Are there certain lines I should add to Xorg.conf, or is this strictly something that has to load via a script?

Thanks a zillion!

** by the way, those of you who have the same issue, be sure to use Synaptic to install nvidia-settings if the command fails!

hi, i am sorry for long time being off..

i have tested some settings(all mentioned above, some googled) in xorg.conf but after finding this trick, i tryied to get them off and it works .. so my xorg.conf is not having any special setting for this (can supply it per request)

i am also not not sure about how it will work for other nvidia users, at all, but it would be fine to inform developers, not really sure how many nvidia users are affected by this - but i hope they read this, not sure where/how to do it correctly for now

so, if it works for u, one of the solution how to achieve it being run by default, is to edit
/usr/bin/ecomorph.sh
(i have just added that line right after
NVIDIA_SETTINGS="nvidia-settings"
line, but i am sure that this is quite a dirty hack, so there may be better solutions..

not sure hove to achieve it in liveCD, but editing iso should do the workemosmile ..
but, this is installed mode thread , am i right ? .)

i am just testing the e17-compiz dev version, and that trick took some time browsing and testing, you are deffinetly right, that users facing this issue have to install nvidia-setting before, thank you for completing

have a nice day

Hi down8ve

you can add to xorg.conf.
Scroll down to where is says Section "Screen" and add the 2 options as below

Option "InitialPixmapPlacement" "2"

Option "GlyphCache" "1"
