What about upgrade from a development version to another ?

I tried but every program I have has been deleted. I read previous posts
and it seems it does recognize, in installing/upgrading mode, just the ~
partition. But I spent hours, days to install and configure programs to
react as I want, and I don't want everything is vanished.
I read that there is a file where I can put all programs to be reinstalled
but :

_ What about configurations files in /etc or somewhere else and all changes I made to system
in many other directories ?

_ Why not think to elaborate an upgrade-program so that it upgrade systems files and programs
only and leaves my changes intact, as it happens on major distros ?

Ehey, so you tryed 1.9.51 ? I have tryed yesturday, it doesent recognized any of my elives :D... But i wen true new thing upgrade from iso that is on my hard disk.

My elives as example is on sda2 and sda7, i booted that from sda7, instaled elive-upgrade, and did what i asked pointed to 51iso, rebooted and "whola" grub is empty totaly. (i was forced to put an emergency actions like boot it up some kind live mode linux, or edit grub for amnual boot, problem who can remmember all what it needs to point in grub manualy?). After all i taked grub from that .51 iso and adopted to partitions of my hard. pointed to sda7 (hd0,6). Grub fixed, added entrys to sda2 too.

But uprade stuck at proces, where it finds elive base system with error:
Error: cannot find base system

and it gives me init..

Btw thank you for pointing me that elive vanishes all configs... (...) from etc as example. This kind off thing willl be like a nightmare to me, in a past i haved already one... Thats terible.

I have upgraded to 1.9.51 by the new way,iso from the hdd,it worked very well for me,exactly like a normal upgrade with a new burned cd.But for the beginning this latest release seems to be the most buggy and unstable to my system,it freezes often and the whole system not only the desktop or the E17.You can't do anything with ctrl+alt+backspace,it doesn't help, only a forced reboot unfortunately.I guess/think that's a bug of this new release and not from e17 or ecomorph.
I stopped the ecomorph and the result was the same: a total freeze.Even the mouse cursor also.confused

What do you mean ? Does it kept your old installed programs, all your
modified configurations files in /etc and elsewhere in the system
( /usr, /var ...... ) ?

No,it just keeps your home data and user(username and password),but in rest it cleans up the whole system, installed programs and settings.
It's almost like a fresh install actally.
