size of video whit mplayer, vlc, xine, etc
August 27, 2007 12:46PM
Hi everyone.

I had a doubt (or problem) whit the size of the video on my elive. When i changed the driver i can see my videos in full size, but very slow, and when i back to the default video driver of mplayer (xv) then it run ok, but the size of the video is too small (less than the half of the screen). I give it a try to al combination of drivers in mplayer, but no, i cant see my dvds or videos in a good quality. (only whit youtube i can see the videos fit on my screen)

I just have a graphic ship, not a video card like nvidia, ati, etc., but whit the same pc i saw my dvds in good quality whit distributions as mandriva, pclinuxos or kubuntu, is the first timne i had that kind of problem.

thanks everyone.

P.D.: sorry my english.

Do you have 3D (direct rendering) ?

Have you test with oxine ?

If you have installed Mandriva or others, can you compare xorg.conf files ?
Re: size of video whit mplayer, vlc, xine, etc
August 29, 2007 03:45AM
My chip dont have support for 3d direct rendering. (for example i cant run beryl or compiz o 3ddesktop, but i know that with my graphic chip i can see my dvd's in good quality)
I never tried wtih oxine, a few minutes ago i play a dvd with oxine and the size of the screen was ok, trough all the screen, but doesnt look ok, the playing was slow and whit low resolution(i dont know if thats the word, but doesnt look okey) and not fluid.

i install elive over mandriva, now i only have elive on my pc.
(and i dont want any other linux distribution on my pc, emosmile )

thanks again phoenix.

Test with a live-cd (not Elive :P), if playback it's ok, post the xorg.conf of this live-cd.

Hi Phoenix.

I put the livecd of kubuntu, a distribution that i use and the the playback was ok. I must change the xorg.conf file of elive fot the kubuntu one? thats what you said?

or you want that i put it in here?

Well, i will pu it in here anyway

Hi Phoenix.

I changed the xorg file last night, and no, dont let me enter in graphic mode, only trough console or terminal. Ive got my backup of the xorg file, but didnt work, i dont know why, so i run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg". And now, everything is "almost" ok again ( :( ) Now the resolution on my screen is ok, but before it was a little more better, i did everything that i could to come back to my previous resolution, but isnt so serious. Well, what an adventure¡¡¡
still i want to see my dvd's trough elive¡¡ :D

Well, that, the xorg.conf file change didnt work :(

thanks again again Phoenix.

P.D.: What a problem, i was until the 4am finding solutions :s
Re: size of video whit mplayer, vlc, xine, etc

Hum...the problem is only with dvds and videos on a CD ?
Or with videos on your hard drive ?

Perhaps is a DMA problem, not a display problem ?
Re: size of video whit mplayer, vlc, xine, etc
August 30, 2007 04:47AM
The problem is with both, Dvd(cd) and hard disk videos.

hmmmm

I need the light at the end of the road, plea.....

Thanks gain again again phoenix
Re: size of video whit mplayer, vlc, xine, etc
August 30, 2007 11:12AM
Sorry. I'm retract. :D I ripped a movie and with the player xine-ui i could see it in full screen just like i want to see all my DVD's. SO, maybe yes, is a DMA problem.
Now i have a question, ¿¿¿¿What does it mean DMA????? hmmmm I never before hear about that.

Thanks.
Re: size of video whit mplayer, vlc, xine, etc

A link : [en.wikipedia.org]

To show if your cd-rom use DMA (root command) :
hdparm -d /dev/hdc
(If your cd-rom is hdc)
Re: size of video whit mplayer, vlc, xine, etc
August 31, 2007 08:47AM
Yes¡¡ yes¡¡ yes¡¡ yes¡¡ yes¡¡

That's it¡¡¡

thanks phoenix.

What i did was changed the value /deb/dvd by /dev/hdc, on the xine player. Whit mplayer i cant find how to fix it, but with the xine player is enough for me. Now xine is the default video player on my elive system. And works whit everything. jejeje.

This friday night i will go to a bar whit friends and drink some ron, whyskey and pisco, and i will make a "brindis" for your help. now my elive works too perfect.

gracias pues, excelente ayuda.
bye.
