It is odd that the grub has to be edited with the new version. You are not the only one who has had this problem, there is another person who had the problem and was shown how to fix it on this forum.
Read this post and follow the instructions

Unfortunately it seems T as written the validation code to be like M$ and their Windows. Basically, you have to get a key for every computer you install e2 on. So if you got the key for your laptop, and want to install on your desktop you have to pay for a new key for the desktop.

It makes sense but at the same time, it will and has been annoying a lot of people. It may have been better to just give one key per email address and use that as part of the validation process.

I have decided to stick with 1.9.60 for the time being because of these sorts of teething problems and probably will not upgrade till June or Even September.

M$ like
and i thought this is linux
this is not the right way
i have registered and payed with my desktop pc
so it looks like it is now bound to my notebook
bullshit

a 64 bit version should be also self evidently - we have 2010

it is also annoying that you have to try 3 cds
only version elive 2 new 2 is booting/working on my acer 7730g
and only elive 2 old on my asus p5q

so mr. Samuel 'Thanatermesis' F. Bagge please send me a second installer-module.cod
cause i (1 person) work very often parallel on both computers
in front of my nose my 26 inch lcd and right hand my notebook for testing different linux in multiboot
to check out behavior und useability

To be honest I don't really know much about the difference between 64 and 32 bit beyond the extra memory but most of the applications are still only available in 32bit. I dual boot with a 64bit version of windows 7 and it did at one point get ridiculously slow, but I guess that was something to do with MySQL. If all you want is more memory there is a high memory kernel available that you can install from Nurse Mode.

yes I agree it is annoying especially if you don't know which one applies to your computer but I think that's an issue with Debian and the way kernels work generally on Linux. I have an acer 8930g laptop and nothing worked, well wifi and sound didn't work under the old kernel but worked perfectly well under the new kernel. So throughout the mid development stage I was always having to install the new kernel manually.

But its not just Elive that has this issue, I ran away from Ubuntu after they released 9.04 because it would boot on my laptop after playing around with the bios settings but not on my desktop no matter how much I changed the bios setting. And this was with an Nvidia-SLi supporting motherboard so it was not like it was old.

64-bit:
yes, it would be nice if i could use my 8gb ram (planning 16gb)
i use it for virtual machines with 7 ultimate 64-bit
also video editing and raytracing
64-bit programs are faster

i´m just not happy that my elive2 is now bound to my notebook

i have no problems with kanotix (debian), mandriva, sabayon, dreamlinux, opensuse, fedora, mint linux, puppy a.s.o.
they all work on both machines

maybe its just my windows 7 set up that's making things run slow. It takes almost a minute for my windows desktop to be fully up after logging in. But I guess Linux tends to do all that process booting before you even get to the log-in screen so may not be a fair comparison.

But I think a 64bit version of Elive or any Enlightenment based distro will be some time yet (partly because it was origninaly aimed at being friendly to old and slower computers not beasts like our acer laptops). In fact other than manually installing Enlightenment on a 64bit Linux I don't think I've come across any. It is a very lightweight desktop manager unlike kde or gnome so doesn't eat up cpu and ram.
However, if you do want 8gb+ of ram on your desktop with elive, you will need to install the high-memory kernel and run that.

I also use virtual machines but mainly for watching tv and games but have not had any serious speed issues using the development versions of elive and vmware. Nothing as graphically and mathematically intense as raytracing though. DX and OpenGL are new additions to things like vmware and vb so their use of my graphics cards are limited to how advanced the virtualising software is.
Anyhoo I guess I'm trying to move as far away from commerical software and M$ as physically possible. so on the rare occasions that I need to do video editing or dvd authoring I've started learning Cinelerra and Q DVD-Author and DVDStyler
