Splash screen not shown / scrambled @ shutdown / reboot
May 16, 2010 03:46AM
When turning off or rebooting my laptop (Acer Travelmate 6004LCi with Intel 82852 855GM) the splash screen is corrupted or does not show at all. VGA is set to 791 (I also tried almost all other configurations), and testing by issuing command 'usplash -fb -fs -v &' works fine, i.e. the splash is shown in the framebuffer. I've been digging into this problem for the last two days - without success. Any suggestions would be more than welcome. - Cheers!
Update: Splash screen not shown / scrambled @ shutdown / reboot

Short update: the screen also freezes (but laptop shuts down) without splash (no settings in GRUB), and also without framebuffer (no vga setting in GRUB). By the way: I am using kernel version 2.6.31-elive-686. Many thanks!!!

Hi

Similar problem here with my Thinkpad.
I've deleted the splash=silent entry in the boot option. Now the system boots and shutdown without problems. Except there is no splash
