Perhaps I am wrong - but I think Mathematica 11.2.0 may be 64 bit...Elive is currently 32 bit...

Yes, Mathematica is 64 bit software. Elive 3.0 will'be 64 bit?

3.0 will be the stable version...so still 32 Bit.
Hopefully when work begins on the next version that will be 64 bit - I would like this also - but I can not speak for Samuel. He may have other priorities.

Exactly, the very coming 3.0 is going to be 32 bit, no time to include 64bit for this release (or it will be never be released by a never ending ton of work)

The inclusion of 64bit will happen after 3.0 release, the good news is that the packager and internal tools to deal with the 64bit was already written emosmile

By the way, if im not wrong you can make it working by installing yourself manually a 64bit kernel from the default repos and boot from it, probably extra libs, try this combo and then reboot in the 64bit kernel:

$ sudo apt-get install libc6-amd64 multiarch-support linux-image-3.16.0-0.bpo.4-amd64
$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture amd64

Then reboot and select the new amd64 installed kernel

clap boogie
