Keyboard Layouts?
December 06, 2007 04:39PM
hi...

I downloaded yesterday elive and im excited about this nice distro.

The only thing i need to ask (for now) is how can i switch between two keyboard layouts?

I need english (of course) and my native language (greek).

Is there any posibility to change (with alt+shift for example) from one language to another, like in gnome and kde?

thanks...

Hello

I've always used the following command in the terminal:
setxkbmab xx
, where xx is the keyboard layout you want to use.

For example, the keyboard layout for the French language would be fr, for German will be de, and so on.

I know there are other alternatives to this too, so I suggest you try and look around the net.

One I recall involved changing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, but I don't quite remember the settings. Sorry.

Good luck!

open elive panel -> user conf -> root terminal

in console:
cd /etc/X11
cream xorg.conf

now xorg.conf will open
just add
Option "XkbLayout" "us,el"
Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle"

the section must look like:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
Driver "kbd"
Option "CoreKeyboard"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us,el"
Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
EndSection

save, exit, reboot
u can now change us to el with alt+shift

This should be supported by enlightenment. Not using xorg or command-line methods. Somebody should finally do it.
