Hello,

I have installed elive on a notebook IBM Thinkpad R50e with max. resolution of 1024x768.
Now I have a program that needs at least 1280x1024 resolution.

Is it possible to set a higher resolution than 1024x768 e.g. by defining a virtual resolution 1280x1024? If possible, where do I have to define this ?

Today I tried to do another installation and the system shows me that the installation module is invalid and asks me to obtain a new one but forcing me to pay again! So how many times I have to pay you in order to be able to install Elive?

P.S. I have response today by e-mail from Thanatermesis so it works this way - each installation module works for one machine!

I was an avid user of Elive on my previous system. Gem didn't work on the new laptop so I waited for 2.0 with anticipation.

I'll not comment on the ethics of paying for elive as I think others have covered it better already. But I knew the software to be good enough to warrant paying for it.

Testing on the laptop went ok(ish) and after a little bit of mucking around I decided it was good enough to install.

Imagine my surprise and disappointment however when I found that thanks to no one bothering to maintain the install module paypal page, you now get an error stating that it's out of date.

/rant mode on

It does beg the question though, if you can't be bothered to even maintain your income stream, is anyone still working on Elive? The near complete lack of support noted on these pages doesn't exactly inspire confidence either, as a non paying community you might expect to have to look around, but as a paying customer you are changing the balance of expectations by quite a bit.

I was prepared to jump through some hoops to get this distro. But come on!

Hi all,

I have just purchased and installed elive 2.0 on an acer laptop.

I did have a previous version installed and that worked fine, I would connect to the wireless router by going into elapanel and then into network connections.

How do do this in the latest version of elive? I can not seem to find elpanel anywhere and I can not find an icon to activate the network connections.

I know that elive 2.0 can connect to my router so this is clearly a hardware matter to deal with.

I love the look of elpanel btw.

Hi This is not a rant, but is intended as a compliment. Elive Topaz is very impressive, the hardware detection was amazing, since I have a quirky Toshiba Satellite laptop. Everything works, and works nicely. The graphics are great. I would have tried to put this on USB so it could be installed onto an eeepc; but I will not pay twice for the same software, even Microsoft will let you use their overpriced junk on 3 pcs. Ubuntu Netbook went on, it works well, but I would have preferred Elive. Again, this is not a rant but a backhanded compliment. Hope to see some updates.

Hi folks, Just joined and this is my first question in your fine forum.

I bought a Dell Mini 1012 for the express purpose of installing Elive 2.0 on it as it's principal OS. I made a live USB of Elive and ran it on my old Dell Inspiron 700m laptop, where it loaded and ran perfectly. When running it on the new Mini 1012, the USB goes through the entire boot up sequence and ultimately fails at a point where it gives me a graphical system error. The error is as follows:

Problem running the Graphical System
(EE) No devices detected

It then sends me to a screen titled "Graphical System Finished" which gives me the following options:

* Start X - Restart your graphical session
* reconfigure - reconfigure your graphical system and launch it
* install - Install Elive in your computer
* console - Boot login console
* reboot - reboot your computer
* shutdown - shutdown your computer

I chose "reconfigure your graphical system and launch it" and reset the screen resolution manually to 1024x600; hit ok and got the same error.

The hardware specs on the machine are as follows:

* Processor: Intel Atom Processor N450 (1.66GHz, 512K L2 Cache)
* RAM: 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz (1 DIMM)
* HD: 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
* Video: Intel NM10 Express
* Network Card: Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card
* 6 Cell Primary Battery
* 10.1 inch Widescreen Display (1024x600)

If anyone has any idea what could be going on and how I might go about solving this I would appreciate it greatly. I REALLY loved Elive on my tests and think it woud be perfect on this machine, if I can get it running.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It has seemed me interesting to put this forum .

I have recently noticed that the users with poor knowledge's of gnu/linux (in other words, that never has tried it), doesn't know How to boot Elive in their computers, so this is why i have added a new entry in the Howto's section with the instructions about how to boot your computer with Elive. It is meant to perfectly explained everything so that anybody be able to run Elive on his computer, you are welcome to suggest anything to add anything on it by simply sending me an email.

The idea still the same, that any kind of user be able to use Elive, without previous knowledge about gnu/linux or other things, if you know other things that needs to be more easy for a new end-user, you can suggest me it by for example reporting it as feature request in the BTS (bugs) website.

I profite also this entry to say that the development of Elive continues, of course, I say that because there's a lot of people in the IRC channel that doesn't see me anymore on it, the reason is simple: IRC takes a lot of time and i prefer to use this time for develop Elive, IRC makes me to lost a lot of time, so I don't expect to return really much on the IRC for now :). If you don't see any update recently is just because im rewriting ALL my personal tools, ways of work, automations, more stable and controled processes... everything, even my new Home structure system that is basically finished. I will try to finish these things as soon as possible and do an update of the actual Topaz version with minor fixes, and starting to work in the new kernel and updating all the packages, I can't say any date, just that ASAP :)

Have a nice day!
