Maybe this is a 'linux thing' - ....
My scroll wheel on my mouse - instead of 'dragging the page' (or causing it to scroll - by clicking the middle button/wheel and moving the mouse - it loads a link...
maybe there is a way to 'fix' it?

Misc Howtosgedit - 16 years ago
greetings...
I've had a few irritating errors/limitations with cream... like losing data (it's been a few months - the error was like 'the backup file is newer - restore?' and it deleted my data....
latest 'gripe' is - can't paste from terminal...
gedit would be my choice - of course - it's an easy apt-get...
Elive overall is just - wownderful!

[OLD] - Installed Mode clam av (antivirus) and firehol (firewall) are available.
There are not (nearly) as many viruses for Linux as Windows - but they do exist. I'm not sure if they are even 'in the wild' now.

[OLD] - Installed Mode e17 - on elive - performs better (movies, open office impress, games) - than e17 on ubuntu (tested on 2ghz 1gb system - Dell Latitutde C810)
so - (I) have it dual boot with Ubuntu and Elive.

[OLD] - Installed Mode the built in network manager works fine for me; however - I have used wicd and find it works even better... - easier to setup mainly
I also think that changing wireless networks should not need roots password. I did note that wicd didn't work for me in elive 1.0
Will have to try wifi-wiz myself

Hardware, Wifi's and Drivers gedit instead of gvim for default text editor
gvim has given me too many errors (cache errors)

Other Suggestions That did not work either. I config'd cron to force log offs every minute during the 'restricted time'. crude but effective.

Also seems to occasionally creep up and left.!
Any way to adjust/fine tune this?

[OLD] - Live mode I had a few challenges (and not all resolved) - with installing a theme from freshmeat... (or other than repos - which I've had problems with some not finding sounds...)
I've only tested this on e16...
basically - it's like this:
download the tar/.tar.gz file of your choice
create (as root) - a folder for the theme in
usr/share/e16/themes
as root - extract the files

Misc Howtos ... icons...
it seems I found a jpeg icon for vlc, and renamed it vlc.eap - placed it in /home/user/.engage/icons - and it worked fine (still had to 'install it' normally to make it work)
with entangle - when I right click to move an icon - it usually crashes
yes - alt esc is fast ez way to run an app
it's looking grrreeat so far!

[OLD] - Installed Mode The 3d desk works ok in e16 (although sometimes it gets 'stuck' and won't allow the desktop to 'restore to normal'
on e17 - it only sees one desktop.

Enlightenment something similar in e16 - with vlc - 'f' for fullscreen and exit fullscreen - works sometimes
-
- workaround -> - bring controls to front (alt tab) - switch to different desktop - and move the control from desktop with full screen to 2nd screen

Enlightenment Same issue here - Dell Latitude C-840
Does the same in Ubuntu too (haven't checked how to shut off in Ubuntu (dual boot)
The screen does shutoff in the bios when closed.
on AC power
