In 1.9.20 it seems some of the missing wired LAN drivers are back (tg3). Thus 1.9.20 is currently installed and running well on my Dell. However, my home laptop (Compaq R4000) seems to work very except for the mouse. The Synaptics touchpad is working well including all sorts of optional bits (two-finger scrolling) but the usb mouse is disabled during the boot process. All other USB devices work cby quan2m - Announcements of Newest Features
Viking, I am sorry this is so late, but if you look for a rescue disk with the 'testdisk' software on it you should be able to recover. I have used testdisk to recover for several newbies in the past. It is time consuming and you should carefully consider what you're doing before you enable it.by quan2m - Configurations and Hardware Solutions
In the latest beta, the bcm43xx driver module is loaded. You still have to do some work, at least I did. You have to install the bcm43xx-fwcutter deb and then download the appropriate firmware from linuxwireless.org. Follow the docs at linuxwireless.org and you'll be set. I know that the deb says it's downloading the firmware, but it didn't seem to work for me.by quan2m - Hardware, Wifi's and Drivers
Thanks for voluminous reply. I am sorry that I can't be more helpful, but you should google and/or search this forum for 'ivman'.by quan2m - Hardware, Wifi's and Drivers
Hey, another note regarding the bc43xx driver on the Compaq R4000. The automated driver download from apt doesn't work right. However, if you download from the appropriate link on linuxwireless.org and run bcm43xx-fwcutter you will be in there like swimwear. The little blue light flickers when there is activity unlike under ndiswrapper (it stays on constantly).by quan2m - Hardware, Wifi's and Drivers
So, I have revisited this issue. You will need to install the bcm43xx-fwcutter utility from apt. That will also fetch the firmware that you need to load to be able to turn your antenna on. Make sure to read the info at linuxwireless.org if it doesn't just jump out at you.by quan2m - Hardware, Wifi's and Drivers
Weird, it seems like the link I tried to post didn't take, well google for " HOWTO: Make your TI internal card reader work for you" and ubuntu and you should get the howto and some helpful links as well. perhaps the powers that be could compile in the tifm modules for the next release? Maybe even next beta? 1.2.5?by quan2m - Hardware, Wifi's and Drivers

Nope, wicd won't appear in your repositories.Go to google and search for 'wicd'. the first result is the homepage for the wicd project. Download the .deb file. Navigate to the .deb file with the file browser and it should gtk-debi for you when you double-click the .deb. That ought to do it. If you run e17genmenu afterwards it will pop-up in your menu under Generated Menus->Neby quan2m - Configurations and Hardware Solutions
If you're having problems with wicd connecting, esp if you have loaded the driver mucked about with and then tried wicd, I would 'rmmod' the driver and then try again. It worked for me. Also, even if you are using a ndiswrapper driver, go with the default wext supplicant.by quan2m - Configurations and Hardware Solutions
xbear, I dunno about the kernel drivers but ndiswrapper works fine on mine. BCM4306 compaq r4000 laptop.by quan2m - Hardware, Wifi's and Drivers
