When using 1.9 I downloaded the "Bonus Disks". I don't see them available anymore since Elive 2.0 have been released Are they still available, or can the old bonus disks still be used with the latest version of Elive Linux ?by wicus - Compiz version
I was running Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 - 64bit, with 3 databases and 1 eBusiness Suite installation for which the requirement was 8Gb of Ram. I switched this setup now to a 16Gb PC, and already have the 8Gb RAM installed on my old one, and would like an O/S which supports the full amount of RAM, although I agree that I won't use 8Gb by running normal desktop applicationsby wicus - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Does Elive Gem 1.0 support up to 8Gb of RAM ? And The compiz version ?by wicus - [OLD] - Installed Mode
I'm also waiting for 2.0 - I don't want to go from Windows now to v1, and the upgrade again, to get to v2by wicus - Announcements of Newest Features
Solution: ========= Install this debian package - xtrlock_2.0-12_i386.deb - with the command "dpkg -i xtrlock_2.0-12_i386.deb" and execute as follows: export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0 xtrlock This will show you a blue lock on the screen. The only way unlock again is to type the password of the user who locked the screen. The characters you type will not be displayed on scby wicus - Compiz version
Is there a way to lock the screen in compiz, except using ctrl-alt-backspace ? When I use system->lock , I'm getting the following error: . No PAM support was built into Enlightenment, so desk locking is disabledby wicus - Compiz version
Where can I download the .rpm or .deb kernel-source file for the compiz kernel version 2.6.26.8 which is the most current one ? . I got 2 - 2.6.26.8-5 and 2.6.26.8-11, but none is able to install. It needs the specific on for this kernel: 2.6.26.8-elive-686 . I'm trying to get the cisco vpnclient installed but needs this rpm/deb file to do thisby wicus - Compiz version
To answer my own questions from my own tests : 1) no - The bonus disks is only for the Gem 1.0 version - that is without the compiz look and feel . 2) Full installable image - better hardware detection than the Gem1.0 version, but currently in a development release . 3) Still testing this, but this will probably break the bonus disksby wicus - Compiz version
If it does not load after a reboot, manually load it with this command as root: insmod /lib/modules/2.6.18-elive/kernel/drivers/net/r8169.ko . test again now with . lsmod | grep r8169 . If it was not loaded by default on a reboot, add it manually to the below file /etc/modules r8169by wicus - Configurations and Hardware Solutions
This solved it for me: goto the following site: "; and download: Free Download Realtek RTL8169 Driver 6.009.00 Linux Kernel 2.6.x & 2.4.x from the "Backup Download Server" r8169-6.009.00.tar.bz2 TRansfer this file via a flash drive to your Elive system and bunzip and follow the below steps: To extract, do this : $ bzip2 -cd r8169-6.009.00.tar.bz2 | tar xby wicus - Configurations and Hardware Solutions
OK - I found the problem on the installer After booting from CD and ending at the command prompt, I noticed the following error: Parse error on line 84 of section Monitor in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf "AD"" is not a valid keyword in this section When I vi this file, line 84 looks like this: ModelName "CMC 19" AD" If I change this line to the folloby wicus - [OLD] - Installed Mode
I have exactly the same problem - using the onboard display card on my Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 motherboard. I'm installing directly in the console - no emulator - using a quad core CPU and 4Gb of RAM. . Any ideas on how to resolve this ?by wicus - [OLD] - Installed Mode
3 Questions" ============ 1) Can the bonus disks for the Elive Gem v1 also be installed on the compiz version ? 2) Is the compiz version only a liveCD version or a full installable image ? 3) Will there be an option to upgrade the Gem1 version to the latest compiz version should it become a production version, or will you have to re-install ?by wicus - Compiz version
