I'm a multi-boot user who dislikes having certain tasks automated. I keep my RTC (the bios clock) set to local time. And I like to manage it manually from the bios utility. I know that on boot any Linux will take it's initial time setting from the RTC, Then depending on NTP settings it might correct it's system clock from some server. That much is fine with me. But... I don't know why this particular package doesn't create a menu entry. But the alternitive is to find out the command name and enter it in a terminal or at the run prompt. For the heck of it I just temporarily installed it to see what new entries would show up in /usr/games. There were three Alittle experimentation led to xmj as being the command name. I just installed the 1.9.51 developement version today. I'm pleased with most of what I found. But especialy since I chose the 3rd experiance level to maximise my control over the install process, I was disapointed that I didn't find an opertunity to tell it to install grub to the install partition. Maybe that's the problem. By now the repositories have likely been updated to point at packages that were optimized for the more recent versions of elive. Possibly the lyx installation script is failing because it now requires something that elive 1.0 isn't compatible with???? I've found some of the answers to my questions... -> 1) How do I actually install elive 1.0 from the livecd? I did a better google search and found a simplistic how-to with to many pictures of the install proceedure. It had exactly one piece of info I didn't know. I never ever did like my computer to try to guess what I want it to do without my having expressly told it to... If I stick a cd or dvd in the drive I not only don't want it to be automaticaly opened/mounted/played I don't want some pop-up process to jump in my way demanding to know what I'm going to do with it. The apt-get -f did need me to be specific... So I tried it with install and each of the problematic packages..... It didn't help So I used --purge to get rid of the apt-get dropings and tried synaptic... Basicly it looks like synaptic is having the same problem but it describes it diferently. Thank you for the hint stanca, This sounds like it's worth a shot. I might have thought of it myself except that when I did a "man apt-get" the section on -f included a sentance that I considered as a warning that I would need to know exactly what to specifiy... I've just installed elive via the "stable" elive 1.0 cd I paid to download some months ago. Would have done that sooner but I needed to decide which of my installed linux to flush to make room for it on my Gateway laptop (MT6451 Notebook PC) with an AMD Turion 64x2 processor and a 120 gig HD I'm getting errors trying to install lyx, which is a "must have" progrby jtwdyp - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Hello, I'm new to elive though I've been playing with e16 and e17 ever since kde4x chased me away from my former preferred desktop environment... First about my computer...
