Did you search and install nvidia-settings in Synaptic? If so, open a terminal, enter "su" (w/out quotes), type in your admin password, then type "nvidia-settings." There ya go.by down8ve - [OLD] - Installed Mode
You could simply install Google Chrome, pretty simple to do. Works incredible in Elive. I'm also interested to see what Opera 10.60 will be like on Elive. Elive is a fantastic distro. I used to be frustrated with "stale" Debian, until I realized how stable it is.by down8ve - Applications
Anyone know when will be back? Pretty frustrating not to have access to some of the best themes for E17.by down8ve - Users corner

The only reason I have for using Ubuntu 10.04 rather than Elive are the programs, no other reason. How I want to use this beautiful distro! Sadly, the stale software keeps me away. Perhaps PCLinuxOS E17 is a better solution? I'll attempt compiling Openshot once again, and see what happens. Then again, if I can't get AAC files to play... I've changed my mind. I would like to see a couple of useful apps updated/made available to Elive users. Any plans for bonus discs? Still, I think elive is one of the finest distros ever created.by down8ve - Other Suggestions

OK, I tried using Openshot's builder wizard. I selected Ubuntu 8.04 on one try, then 8.10 on the other in oder to see if it would pull in the needed dependencies. MLT always resulted in a failure. Too bad that we have these problems to deal with, although I notice OpenGNU is moving to Debian Testing, so perhaps our luck will turn out better there.by down8ve - Applications
So what's the matter with the Elive repos? Evolution is coming down the pipe at 50KB/sec.by down8ve - Software
I've been using the release candidate for aTunes 2.0. Easily installable as a .deb, it seems to import well enough and work. Those of you looking for a more complete player may wish to try it. Jeff, That would be terrific! I attempted to do something similar with their Builder Wizard, but had snags.by down8ve - Applications
Yeah, those .debs go on pretty easy. OpenOffice is another (3.2, not the one in Synaptic). BUT things that could radically transform Elive, like OpenShot and Banshee 1.5/6, depend on stuff we don't have in our libraries. So....by down8ve - Applications
I've installed Topaz, everything seems fine. I decided to try the compressed Reiser4_lso format for my / and /home partitions. Was that not a smart thing to do? Anyone else do this sort of thing? The only two issues I have is about a 15-second delay at boot-up while the drives are loaded (I have Win7 on another drive) and an annoying Iceweasel lag when the application is launched. Wow, you are right where I was about a month ago. You have an important choice to make, whether to have stability or freshness. As for me, I have always hopped from distro to distro to find the right balance between new features and stability. For me, every time I have used Ubuntu there has been trouble from using the latest versions of this and that, adding various PPA repos to the point ofby down8ve - Other Suggestions
I have easily installed OpenOffice 3.2 on Elive. I went to the OpenOffice site, went to the download page for other platforms, and downloaded the .deb for US English- Linux 32-bit Deb. In my Downloads folder I rt-clicked and extracted the file, went into the new OO folder, opened a terminal and followed the common directions for installing .deb files via terminal with root privileges. I wanted to post a short update about my reaction to all this Zeitgeist stuff. First, I want you all to know that I have reconsidered my use of this amazing distro, and have paid for a copy of the new Topaz version. Some could make relativistic arguments concerning things like this, like "If you use Winderz, why would you find Elive too 'evil' to use." For me, it is theby down8ve - Other Suggestions
When the email announcing the "Zeitgeist Edition" arrived in my mailbox this morning, I took a deep breath and began flipping through my linux collection for another distro to use. I'm on 1.9.56, and AAC and MP3 do not show in Sound Juicer's import prefs. They do show in Gnome's settings when you edit these settings within Sound Juicer, lame and faac are installed, but they don't seem to be recognized.by down8ve - Applications
OK, it's ben a few months, and I'm back to trying 1.9.56. I have the latest Songbird installed (simple extract into my home directory) and it works well. Perhaps I should extract it to /opt for all users, but it's OK for now. As far as CD extraction goes with Sound Juicer, seems like the AAC (faac) and MP3 options are not usable. Annoyances found so far in this latest release... In two different installs, there is no sound. In launching the volume control I get: "No volume control Gstreamer plugins and/or devices found." and "Enlightenment was unable to run the application gnome-volume-control." Live CD was fine.
