Hello !
I don't know if partimage is natively included (and I don't want to test in Elive but it is included in Debian packages so you can apt-get it in live mode and backup your OS X partition.
To boot with DVD drive you have to press "c" key at bootup or if you have rEFIt installed (remember it's fully recommanded) the CD will appear as choice to boot from.

Normal... You have to synchronize partition table in normal mode, not in chroot... sorry...

apt-get update
apt-get install refit
gptsync /dev/sda

[OLD] - Installed Mode Reboot with the live cd, then open a terminal :
su
mkdir /mnt/target
mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/target
chroot /mnt/target
apt-get update
apt-get install refit lilo
gptsync
liloconfig /dev/sda3
It works for me, i'm not a good teacher, I use GNU/Linux since 7 years so that it's simple for me is maybe incredible hard for you...
The better way is to run gptsync after

MacBook version Hello ! Sorry for my silly english.
I've installed Elive and I had problem with Grub, it wouldn't install correctly. So it was impossible to boot (even with rEFIT).
I found a solution : after the install, chroot into Elive partition and run liloconfig /elive_partition
