Thanks very much Thana. As we say in Australia, you're a gem.by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Thana, that's right, I'm using Gem, and the Entrance.by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode

Addendum: Single pass is also out. Could this have something/anything to do with having a separate home partition?by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Sigh. In my efforts to get Elive to rip my dvds properly, I uninstalled it and tried out some other distros (nb: Sabayon ripped fine, I just don't like it). On reinstalling, I decided to pay Thana this time (fifteen bucks). Now I've reinstalled, ripping is _still_ not working with ye olde error 139 (at least 2 pass, single is still a work in progress). But far, far, worse, myby paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Thanks Phreaky. I'll resize tonight and see how I go. I'm almost 100% sure it's not the ram - my computer's only a coupla years old, and I have a gig of ram.by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Hmmmm. I just had a thought. My home folder is on a separate partition to the OS. Is it possible I don't have enough room on my OS for the ripping? There's only 1.5 gigs free. Would that explain the crashes? Anyone?by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
sob! Oh well. No ripping for me it seems!by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Thanks for your help though, guys.by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Nope, after scouring Google and countless forums I can not get any of the four rippers I've tried to work for me, with a variety of different dvds. Caching seems to work okay, but something in the encoding stuffs up. I've tried different audio and video codecs, no audio, etc. and it still doesn't work. Mencoder gives the old errors 139 or 136, with the "too many packby paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
I don't know! Sorry dude. I'll have a scout around maybe tonight and see what I can find to help you out...by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
I don't think that should make a difference Jonah. I'm not very versed in the back end of Linux, but to me it sounds like Amarok is looking for a particular setting in the wrong place. How many partitions do you have?by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Hey thanks very much for the help Joe, I'll give it a try when I get home tonight and let you know.by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Quote3) Finally (for now hmmmm ) Enlightenment needs an easier, more intuitive way of adding apps and app icons to menus, the ibar, and so on. Messing with eap's and Entangle is just too cumbersome and counterintuitive. Ideally, you should be able to drag and drop applications onto the ibar and engage, as in Mac OSX. Oh, I and totally agree. The whole eap thing is irritating and needlesslyby paddy567 - Other Suggestions
Something I would really love to have is similar to Ubuntu with Synaptic checking for updates after log in. I know it's very un-power user, but I really miss that feature from Ubuntu. Failing that, an option of putting synaptic in the ibar/menus would be great also, I'm always playing around with it, and sometimes I get frustrated having to click through the elpanel to get it.by paddy567 - Other Suggestions
Hi Jonah, Wish I could give you a hand, but Amarok runs fine for me. What kind of system are you on?by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Thanks Thana, I'll give it a try. An application I've been looking at is called Vive. I haven't tried it out yet, but I figure it's worth a shot. K3copy also gets rave reviews, but doesn't seem to work in enlightenmnet atm.by paddy567 - [OLD] - Installed Mode
I have a pretty strong feeling this is a problem with Mencoder, not elive itself, but I'm getting desperate, so I thought I would throw this one out there. Acidrip just _will not_ work for me. It doesn't matter what I try to encode a dvd to, it crashes every single time, usually around ten minutes in (that is, ten minutes of encoding the film, not the whole ripping process).
