Ah ... I haven't got my machine networked ...(I was downloading the file off a different machine) - And I'm not gonna be able to for a while either ... (I just borked my Windows installation too! )
Damn!
I knew there were things I preferred about the Windows monolithic app install way of doing things!

No ... I meant where do I save the file to?
I didn't see anywhere to type a number into
What I got was a message to go download the file from a certain address and t

>What was the problem installing Gem 1.0 ?
Some linux distros use a version of isolinux that is incompatible with some
optical drives - And GEM/1.0 is such a distro ... And my DVD drive is such a drive
Short of changing your optical drive ... or recreating the distro with a
different isolinux (good luck!) ... there is only one other solution of which

Announcements of Newest Features I installed Frozen Bubble from the bonus disk
It worked fine, but it was a little quiet
So, I opened Alsamixer and upped the volume
I was only getting output from one speaker though, no matter which slider I adjusted
Since my PC outputs to a mixer and then a preamp, I thought I'd test the connections
It made no difference, what I did
So, I tried an audio CD through my decks

Applications Does that mean you've installed it?
I think it's a VAST improvement over GEM - For a start, it finds my SATA drives!
But I'm a little worried about the boot/shutdown screens I see when starting/leaving the liveCD - I'm trying to win people over to eLive / OzOS and anything that detracts from the 'experience' ... albeit cosmetic ... (perhaps even especially if i

Announcements of Newest Features What would be REALLY nice would be if the ALT+ESC Run command searched for files as well as apps
Now that would be really cool!

Announcements of Newest Features I know this isn't Windows and 'man' is always there, but ...
What's better ...
1) Lots of people asking questions on the forum that they could answer for themselves, because they
1.1) don't know about 'man
1.2) don't know what to topic 'man' for
or
2) Lots of people not asking questions on the forum that they could answer for them

Other Suggestions The clock gadget really isn't in keeping with the quality of the rest of the desktop - It just doesn't fit in with the rest of it and stands out like a sore thumb
I've done some searching on Get-E and various other places and haven't been able to find a digital clock either - The nearest I found meant I'd have to apply a whole theme that I didn't want!
So, cou

Other Suggestions I'm in and out of ElPanel quite a lot and ... although it might seem a minor thing ... having to go back to the start of the options and work my way through again gets irritating after a while
So, it would be nice if ... having gone into User Configuration and chnaged my screensaver, say ... I could then go straight to some other option rather than having to select User Configuration agai

Other Suggestions You can just ALT+TAB, like in Windows - It even automatically moves your mouse-pointer to the selected window!
Or you can configure the middle mouse-button to work in any zone .. But you'll have to use a 1.9.x_unstable for this [1] - I haven't found a way to do this in GEM yet
Personally, I'd hate to see a taskbar in eLIve ... (or at least I'd hate to see one I couldn

Other Suggestions I've seen lots of people ask how to move the Elpanel
It's easy
Simply hold down the ALT-key and grab it with your mouse - You can then let go of the ALT-key and move it anywhere you like
There ... Easy, wasn't it?
(You can use this technique for a number of other things on the desktop too, if you find that the mouse doesn't work by itself - It doesn't wor

Misc Howtos Pretty damn good! - A VAST improvement over GEM!
I'm guessing that the next stable release will be 2.0?
When will that be, roughly? - I can't wait!

Announcements of Newest Features I'm glad that's sorted - I'm really embarrassed / ashamed by that outburst, to tell the truth ... and just hope mika2008 can find it in his heart to forgive me
I don't really know a lot about eLive, to tell the truth
Although I discovered it about a year ago now, I've only recently got around to installing it - I gave up for a long time, because the version of isoli

Announcements of Newest Features I'm terribly sorry
You're quite right ... and under normal circumstances I'd simply have posted the link
I'd had a really bad day, talking to rude and lazy people when I wrote it
On top of that, I'm coming off nicotine really badly right now and a lot grumpier than I would normally be in any case
They're still not excuses, I know, but might help expla

Announcements of Newest Features Unfortunately, as far as Windows is concerned, the whole things is a bit like Highlander - There can be only one ... and that's Windows
If you want/need a Windows multiboot system, it's even a pain with various versions of Windows on the same system!
The easiest way to fix your problem is to take another liveCD ... (say Ubuntu) ... and reinstall GRUB
1) Pop in the Live CD and

[OLD] - Installed Mode A long time ago ... in a galaxy far, far away ...
(Well, some time around '95 - '97 ... in a far-flung corner of the metropolis anyway)
... I stumbled upon Slackware 1.0
Having finished my Computer Science studies still relatively recently ... and having done them on Unix ... I was none too impressed with DOS/3.x or '95
And here was a Unix I could run on my own PC!

Good Experiencies Using XP, I have replaced the standard explorer shell with Emerge Desktop
I've programmed my mouse so that the middle mouse button sends a particular keystroke
Emerge Desktop traps that keystroke and pops up my menu for me ... wherever I click the mouse - It makes no difference whether I click on the desktop, in a folder, in an application window, on a button or other menu ... I always

Gave up and went to bed
Got up
Booted
It went straight to the GUI login

[OLD] - Installed Mode I want to like eLive ... I really do
But I've had nothing but trouble with it so far
It seems that the version of isolinux used for GEM just doesn't like certain optical devices and won't boot into the liveCD ... And that's it - Change your CD/VD ROM device or don't use eLive
Well, I found a workaround and installed it to the HDD via Qemu over SLAX KillBill liveC

[OLD] - Installed Mode I have the same problem
It might be to do with the fact that I installed through Qemu over SLAX ... (long story) ... or it might not, by the looks of things
However, you can get into X with 'startx' at the commandline
If this doesn't work ... or you get a weird disply (monochrome / wrong resolution / etc.) ... log in as root and execute 'dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserve

[OLD] - Installed Mode Re 5)
This is the default Enlightenment behaviour and nothing to do with E-live ... If you don't like it, you won't want to use E on any distro
Besides, this only happens if you click on empty desktop - Otherwise the left-click functions as you would expect it to in any OS, not just linux
