I am using 1.9.22 with Compiz running and WOW!!!
Best running and looking Compiz out of the box.
Minimize a window and it folds into a paper airplane, and flies into the pager. highlight the date module and the calender spins into place, now that's cool!! Plus all the other effects that you come to expect from compiz.
The only problem is the drop shadows of windows can been seen on other

Announcements of Newest Features Lenny now being stable, hope to see soon Elive Gem 2.0. I plan to purchase a couple copies as I have not paid for quit a while and feel a little guilty.
I have been using unstable for about a year. It has been quit stable most of the time as long as you play with the newer version separately so you can have the older one to fall back on and upgrade when things run smooth.
I plan to give a r

Announcements of Newest Features I am downloading 1.9.20 as I write and have 1 min. left. Things have been improving for myself at a rapid rate and all the problems I have in the past have been addressed and fixed. Most recent have been with LinuxNit and it is maturing into a nice network tool.
Thanks to all who host the .iso for download and will let everyone know how great things are in 1.9.20 as it has finished downloading a

Good Experiencies For future reference, In case the eliveinstallerkey is not automatically detected by the installer, look in ~/downloads/firefox and open it. This should initiate the installer for the window to enter the key, that is provided in the opened file.
I had this problem long ago and never since.

Good Experiencies I have been looking for a distro for my mom who has been having troubles with her windows machine. She just wants to enjoy the internet, not have to spend most of her time with liveonecare before she can get online, then be slowed by things running in the background all the time.
She loves the look and feel of Mac but just can't afford it, plus office, photo editing ect.
I have put togeth

Good Experiencies Network connector has been improving for me over the last update. The profile name field which, had to be filled in with every start now is auto filled, but will not auto start at log in. Have to start network through the elpanel every time.
Some are spoiled by automatic internet at start after one time config.

Configurations and Hardware Solutions Ditto here. I have my favorite shoutcast .pls's saved from the shoutcast site in a folder that open in xmms, way faster then streamtuner and tunapie which also launch xmms and are good to try out new stations, but take time to find what you want. Have you tried trolling through the shoutcast list in amarok. It is huge, too much, looks nice and all.

Other Suggestions After updating your Elive Gem you will be at the most current release of the stable version.
the newer version you see on distrowatch is of the development type, which looks much more updated from Gem, but comes at a price of stability, how ever I find it way more stable then other development versions of other distros out there. If you plan to use it for critical means, such as a business or p

Applications ttf-mscorefonts-installer and mscorefonts will solve the missing font problem or you can change the default font setting for abiword by hunting down a collection of normal.awt files with a text editor and changing the default font, save and close.

Applications You most likely don't have that font installed. Close abiword, reopen and before typing select a different font, you will know as the cursor changes size slightly, then begin typing. later hunt down your missing fonts and install them.

Applications Is your time correct at your log in screen if it too is fast, go to elpanel icon at far right then user configuration then date and time, make sure time and timezone, UTC or not are all correct.
Check you computer's bios clock as well by using Delete or Escape or f-whatever flashes so fast that it takes a couple boots to figure it out.

[OLD] - Installed Mode Try using 1.9.10 as thing seem to improve rapidly, and that you are not using a CD-RW.
Use CD-R only.
Thanks

[OLD] - Installed Mode I have the same problem on 2 different installations.
1 on a 64bit desktop, single boot as I have a swappable drive bay.
2 short 64bit thinkpad.
It happened to me as I upgraded to 1.9.10 to both systems after reboot.
I did an update about 2 boots later and the desktop entrenced but the laptop did not.
I use Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or enter 3 for the 3rd runlevel at the boot prompt, then log in
