in addition to the advice given for the dev. releases to enable persistence, on needs to edit the boot-menu by adding "persistence" - without the ", to the kernel line.by gs - Other Suggestions
on a desktop computer with RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI net-connector is not working - neither in live mode nor after harddisk installation. After a longer period of trying I connected to my router by LAN. So I had connection to the internet. I then removed net-connector and installed wicd. After reboot, wicd connected to the Ralink-PCI without problems.by gs - Configurations and Hardware Solutions
I had similar troubles - see my posts "bcm4312" When i try to connect in live-mode, netconnector - sometimes - says "connecting" and does not seem to connect. Nevertheless I can access the internet after this "futile" procidure.... in your case, try, as root, in konsole: iwlist scan. This command should show how your wlan-device is recognized, e.g. wlan0, wlan1by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
what is it that you do not understand? To sum up how I do it (using the recent stable version of Elive-2-Topaz): 1. download and burn the .iso to cd 2 create one partition on an usb-stick - 1GB or more, format with ext2 3 copy the contents of the cd to this partition (e.g. sdb1) 4 install grub to sdb by using the command, as root, "grub-install --recheck --no-floppy --root-directoryby gs - [OLD] - Live mode
I think boot fromiso is not possible. I would try to boot from usb-stick (they are cheap now) and you do not affect your windows installation.....by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
I think you must bei root. open terminal, type su. Command prompt will change from $ to #. Now the command: grub-install --recheck --no-floppy --root-directory=/media/sdxy /dev/sdx will work....by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
during the weekend I had time to look further into the problem with live-mode. lsmod showed the wl driver loaded, b43 and the others you mentioned were not present. Interestingly, the netconnector, in live mode - I had not noticed this previouly - already had the entries for my router and passwd, and in /etc/network interfaces-eth1 was already present. This kept me wondering for a while. Tby gs - [OLD] - Live mode
I have now answers: Using the Elive-2-version, in live mode network connector does not work with my bcm4312 chip. The interfaces eth0 and eth1 (wlan) are shown, but netconnector does not connect with my router. If I try, as you suggest, /etc/init.d/netconnectord restart, still no connection. With a fresh install to harddisk, netconnector does not show any interfaces, but suggests to do /eby gs - [OLD] - Live mode
on my Lenovo S10e netbook with bcm4312 wlan, the network connector is no more working with Elive RC1 and Elive RC2. The story with this broadcom-wlan-chip and elive was as follows: with the earlier development versions one had to connect to internet with LAN and then produce the wl.ko which is needed for the wl-module and the broadcom-4312 to work. a few of the latest development versions haby gs - [OLD] - Live mode
I was d to be charged for an RC-version and payed a small amount only by paypal - to see how this RC-1 behaves. I did not get any download and the message "invalid transaction" I did like the development versions of Elive, but I do not like to be charged for and RC-1-version. Maybe the developers/owners of elive should reconsider this procedure.by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
since elive-development 1.9.58 programs such as synaptic or gparted do not start in live mode: it appears that the recent development .isos contain more problems as time goes on.....by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
There is a very poor preliminary (?) German tranlation of "nurse-mode", namely "Krankenschwester-Modus". This is unfortunately rather ridiculous - I suggest "Hilfe-Modus" instead......by gs - Other Suggestions
regarding persistent it took me several months to find out the following: with elive-development versions one does not need to create a live-rw-file. It is sufficient to add, to menu.lst, if you are using grub, or to extlinux.conf, if you are using extlinux as bootloader for the live-usb-stick, the entry "live persistent". Elive then creates a new folder with the name "Elive&quoby gs - [OLD] - Live mode
postscript 2: just noticed that there is a special boot option for Eeep 701 in the devel.version 1.9.41: One has to scroll down a bit when grub menu.lst appears and choose this option - boot with Eeepc is then ok sorry for my posts, but maybe somebody can profit......by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
postscript: there is no problem with the compiz-version 1.9.40 which bootet ok on the eeepc and from which I am writing this entry oooh - and I made a mistake in the previous post - it was version 1.9.39 which also worked....by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
the most recent development version of elive (1.9.41) does not go into desktop on Eeepc 701: boot ends by giving several options to startx - neither is working. Therefore this development version - as some others before - cannot be used with Eeepc. 1.9.38 of 8 august was working flawlessly.....by gs - [OLD] - Live mode
following the development-versions i found that 1.9.38 with new kernel 2.6.30.4...disappeared from mirrors after only one day and was now replaced with 1.9.39 having the old kernel. My observations: with old kernel as in previous versions DVB-T not working - if I install and boot from the 2.6.30.4...kernel DVB-T does work out of the box, but now WLAN on my Eeepc is no more recognized.by gs - [OLD] - Installed Mode
its me again. did some googling on persistence with pendrive linux - in particular Debian. To make Debian live persistent, it was advised to add, to menu.lst of grub or, if using extlinux-bootloader, to extlinux.conf the entry "live persistent" (without "" of course). I did this instead of "persist=live-rw" and it did the trick for me: I now have Elive live persby gs - [OLD] - Live mode
I am very interested in getting elive "live-persist" and thus was happy to find this thread. However, neither procedure works for me. I use a 2-GB-Kingston usb-stick, which allows persistence with Dreamlinux, Kanotix or Sidux. If I follow the advice first given, e.d. create the live-rw by doing dd if=/dev/zero of=/elive/.mnt/cdrom/live-rw... the file "live-rw" is created oby gs - [OLD] - Live mode
my solution to get autologin is as follows: apt-get install kdm while kdm is being installed, you will be asked if you want to use kdm instead of entrance - opt for this. You can then edit the file /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc as root to enable autologin.... Upon googleing for entrance and autologin, I found several howtos, but following them "killed" my elive-install..by gs - [OLD] - Installed Mode
