If so defragment you Windowsby Boo2themoon - Off topic
@ Zibi1981 That mule sure can carry some stuff! @ Catweazel. The new Dev 1.2.3 should be right up your street. As its a live Cd there is no need to install to try it out. See hereby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Clueless, Are you saying that you can't install or that error came up while you were installing?by Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
John, I have had a similar problem after a recent update. In my case grub had not found where to boot from and typing "reboot" at the blinking cursor has got me going again. Very strange! In your case it appears to be something to do with the bootsplash image and possible the resolution of it. This should only slow things down though, so I guess it more to do with the "Circulby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode

No reason why not, Xp and various Linux based distros have been found to work fine. Wifi can take a bit of effort but will work. Take a look at Ubuntu with compiz! Here is a nice click about demo of the Asus running the shipped OS Xandros. Enjoy!by Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode

I have a problem. I dual boot with xp but when I run Elive (installed) my laptop gets very hot and the fan is very loud. When I use XP it is ok.by Boo2themoon - Laptops testers
Hi cybermarcel, Yes I there is a way to fix mbr with some live cd's. Knoppix was mentioned on a few forums that I searched. However the procedure for this fix varied from post to post and I didn't feel confident in my skills or understanding to try this method. So earlier today I ran the M$ cd and ran "fixboot" and then reinstalled elive. All is well again As I hadby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Thanks again cybermarcel, but the file is not there. Maybe this is the problem? I have been using windows for a couple of days now and its driving me nuts. So I have backed up all my stuff and I am going to fix the mbr with windows cd and reinstall elive. Thank you very much for your time. Booby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Thanks for your reply but I cannot find this file. I am using Thunar to search for the file with elive cd. The closest I have found is in mnt/hda3/boot/ 2 files called config-2.6.18-elive and system.map. There also a grub folder containing 2 package files (icons look like boxes) message and message elive. I will keep looking Thanks Booby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
I have discovered that I have stuffed up my master boot record mbr The info I have found seems to fix the mbr with the windows install cd and the command "fix mbr" This should get windows up and running but I'm not sure how it will affect elive. If anyone has advice before I do this I would be very pleased to here it! Regards Booby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode

After updating my system I lost all sound. I looked around Alsa for a while but this did not work. So I tried booting from the live cd to ensure it was not hardware related and the sound worked fine. I then clicked on the install to hard drive icon and looked for a simple way to reinstall without loosing anything saved. After a few clicks I decided against it and canceled the install.by Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Using Iceweasel I can access the site ok but it renders slowly. I think maybe it "times out" for some people!? Also your banner text "Cafelinux developments" overlaps the text above. Not sure what this means but I hope it helps Booby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
I am having problems displaying content from sites like Mplayer plays for a split second then stops! The flash videos here play ok but not much else does. Also sites like usually (but not always) display video but the sound is out of sync. I have used Windows on the same computer to compare results and this work perfectly. Is there anything that can be done to help this or is it a liby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode

I am aware that Linux is much more secure than Windows but do we still need to install Firewall, Anti-virus and Spy-ware apps ? Please advise. Booby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Having searched around for a sync solution, it appears that there isn’t one. Not really! There is software like jpilot if you have a Palm device and there are a few alpha/beta programs around, but they limited in there device support and seem very complicated to get working. This is not the fault of Linux it’s more to do with the device manufactures not supporting the Linux platform. Howevby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Is there a way to sync data like to-do lists, contacts, calender and notes etc? I use a Nokia series 40 dumb phone and Outlook on Windows to supplement my little grey cells. Thanks bryanstein for your clear newbie friendly reply. It was just what I needed! I love being able to launch an app quickly using Alt+Esc and it is now my preferred method. However I didn't have much luck creating an icon as the first step for this "add an icon by right clicking on the top window border and choose create icon" launches the eap editor and upon clicking the iby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
Firstly let me say what a great job has been done with this little Gem. I am completely new to the Linux world but still managed to install Elive on an empty hard drive and be up and surfing in about 30 mins! I am using e17 and it looks and works fantastic too. However I am a little green when it comes to installing and configuring new software so here is my problem. Using Synaptic, I downlby Boo2themoon - [OLD] - Installed Mode
