Installed Mode I'm looking at howto's to install discourse, in a fast research looks like it can be a great moving
If, I will probably set the server with "elive superpowers" (instead of a plain useless and bloated blubluntu container), but in any of the cases, I'm worried about the email thing, so emails should be sent from the own server (it can work as the previous tests, but all

Websites If discourse is free to install (and use) then it can be a good alternative, from my old researches i didn't see any good alternative to use and so we continued to use this forum.
Some requirement points for the possible switching:
* make a list of the features needed/wanted/required
* do a research of the features in both Phorum (this website) and Discourse, list them somewhere a

Installed Mode LTS will be managed by own servers, so no need to worry about that
forum has a lot of users and activity, but old topics are moved to old sections to cleanup the main threads
you dont need to install new versions unless you want to have the features listed the changelogs, but elive includes elive-upgrader with automated updates so most of them should be included "doing nothing"

Off topic 1) Elive included virtualbox with their drivers, but for use the last version, you should use the one from their website, the 32 bits is fine if you dont want to use more than 4GB for the virtualized machine, for install the last version you need first a full removal of the old virtualbox:
sudo apt-get remove --purge virtualbox\*
because virtualbox has a kind of small bug, you need to rem

Installed Mode > Screen configuration work better for me now , although it is not clear for me how to choose which screen is the default one...
The tool asks you which is your primary screen (if no --primary value is found in the conf file), for a new test remove your $HOME/.screenlayout directory so that will generate a new conf
maybe should be asked always when editing the conf?

Installed Mode Check (edit) the code in /usr/bin/elive-multiscreens file
As I said, it is a wrapper for arandr tool (which loads the conf at start, etc) between other things, and arandr tool is a GUI for xrandr
The conf saved is in $HOME/.screenlayout/ directory, the one that uses arandr
arandr should show you the available resolutions just like "xrandr --query" does, thats why i said maybe t

Installed Mode You dont need a new / different kernel if the one running makes your hardware work correctly, in other words you wont need to change it in 100 years
Yes, next (beta) versions after 3.0 will be start to be built uppon 64 bits, with UEFI support, and entirely new software and kernel

Off topic Using these steps, your system will STILL being 32 bits (all the software packages running on it), BUT now you should be able to run 64 bit software, this means, your system is the same elive one in 32 bits, and now you can install (or just run) 64 bit software, you can try for example installing the Virtualbox version of 64 bits for debian/wheezy which should work and run perfectly

Installed Mode You can compile your own software, which should be installed in /usr/local and so you can have a control of where is put the installed software
Using debian packages are more in control but it can make your system unstable with their relation in dependencies, but you should use a repository / packages for the Wheezy release of Debian (like found in the downloads of virtualbox), which will use

Installed Mode I dont recommend to install new kernels unless you have some drivers that doesnt works correctly with the default one
By other side it should be automated in a full upgrade (if any available)
Yes it is better to use the kernels provided by Elive for compatibility and security reasons

Installed Mode Elive has an own, fully automated and totally light updater tool, you may have noticed it to update recently with the multiple-screens features
The tool was designed to be automated specially for important things (automated fixes if needed) and also includes a full upgrade more delayed (monthly or weekly), which asks you to upgrade the full system
In short, you dont need to care about anyt
